Beautiful thermal baths ! Diverse and qualitative installations and the new islandic zone is really nice ! The infusion sessions in the saunas are worth it. Moreover the whole team was very kind and the restaurant offers very good and (maybe too) big portions. Relax and respectful atmosphere.

Little details such as shampoo and shower gel in the showers, free use scrub (notably as scrub sessions are canceled with Co***-19) or more drinking fountains (for example aromatized with fruits) would really get the experience perfect.

We will come back as soon as possible !

Hello SunnyCityHopper Thanks for your warm review :) A warm welcome and a good feeling is exactly what we try to give to and spoil our guests with. Sorry you had some waiting time for the meal. In our kitchen we try to combine fresh ingredients, good quality and a quick service. But fresh and quick sometimes don't match ... Hope to see you soon again ! Thermen Katara

Katara is a new clean modern complex. I think it's probably a very good summer sauna complex. However, as this is Belgium and good summer weather is only possible a couple of months per year, I don't think it's a usefull complex in all those other months. We visited on a Saturday (last weekend) and noticed the following things:
- there are virtually no places to sit other then the restaurant/bar. There is a very small "resting area" but if 4 people lay down, it's full. Outside, there are plenty of seats but those are only usefull with good weather. Basically, it you want to rest, you're going to end up buying a drink.
- the saunas are small. Compared to other sauna complexes the saunas themselves are small. Few people can fit into them which means you have to check "availability" quite regular. The löylo and scrub sessions fill up quite quick. It may be due to a weekend or a special 5 € discount that day but if it's crowded, you have to wait. For both löylo and scrub sessions, we had to be there 15-20 minutes in advance. Not the most relaxing thing to do. Especially not because:
- the Finnish sauna is outside and the waiting area is complety exposed. It's not bad that a sauna is outside. If you want to cool down, you just have to step out. But if you have to wait 20 minutes for Mirjam while she prepares her session, standing outside in the rain will lead to a cold (which my girlfriend now has). Please, put a roof up or something to keep you sheltered a bit.
- there's 1 (one!) toilet and 1 urinal for men. I don't know if there are more scattered around the place but this is all I could find. And we were here 6 hours so they were truely well hidden.
- shower areas are small and they do feel a bit cramped. There are only a couple of hot showers in the entire complex (10 by my count, at least I couldn't find more). For a sauna complex with hundreds of people in, this is not enough.
- the inside saunas don't have an "airlock". It's just 1 door between the sauna the central hall. This means that when that door is opened, cold air flows in. It's even more annoying as this doesn't stop sound either.
- I think one of the reasons why some people like Katara is that it's a real women's place. The ratio women to men is quite high. That's not a problem but a lot of women's groups have a tendency to talk a lot and loudly (when we were there). So while you're trying to enjoy yourself in a sauna, you can be disturbed by outside sounds.
- the jacuzzi itself deserves a special mention. It's outside (at least it has a roof over it) but it's small, cramped and you have to push a button every couple of minutes to keep it going. Frankly I don't understand Katara calls this 8 people. 8 is the number of people in that jacuzzi in a swingers club, not in a decent sauna.
- food seems quite pricey. Katara is cheaper then most other sauna complexes but it seems this is one of their ways to compensate this. To be fair: as we didn't eat there, I don't know if the higher price is justified.
- check out will try to scam you. Be sure to go over the bill at check-out because they will try to add items. Last weekend there was a deal that took 5 € of the entry price and included bubbles (a decent cava). When we checked out, the cava was complimentary but the discount was taken off. We also had rented 2 bathrodes but they also added towels (which we didn't rent). All in all, they had added 20 € to our bill. It was taken off when we mentionned that it was incorrect and impossible as complimentary cava was only available on that -5€ deal. Even then, reception needed to check if there were towels with the bathrobes (which they were not off course).
- the place is spotless. That's not a negative point obviously but it has to be said: this is the cleanest sauna, I've ever set foot in.

All in all, I won't return there. Yes, it's a bit cheaper then other saunas and I even understand that many groups who just want to laugh/talk/shout all day find this place appealing (there's little to no staff around on what was a very busy Saturday so no supervision). But I want to relax and not worry about a lot of things (where to sit, when is a sauna available, when showers are available, waiting for a toilet etc). And then Katara is not a place to be for me. I'd much rather pay a few euros more for peace of mind and relaxation.

Hello SummerIsHere Sorry to hear that your visit to Katara has been a complete turndown. Most of our guests tend to appreciate our sauna both in summer, spring, winter and autumn. You have visited us on a special weekend with our new year's reception. This includes a free glass of excellent Cava for everyone, small fingerfood and extra aufguss sessions. Ofcourse such an event also attracts extra people. On saturday we held 9 sessions for a total capacity of 350 places. But anyhow, in each decent Belgian sauna you will find people waiting in advance for (too little) aufguss sessions. This is not only in Katara. You complain about a lot of missing facilities. By entering the sauna, our receptionists allways offer a guided tour to new costumers. What a pity that you didn't take that offer. You would have learned that : (1) there are several toilets in different spaces. (2) That there is not only a resting area inside but also a resting space for 20 people that can be reached by the garden, and (3) that we dispose of at least 18 warm showers. It is worth mentionning that we are the only sauna in Belgium that offers warm showers everywhere, also outside. About our saunas. The smaller a sauna, the better the climate. But large sauna centers tend to offer very large saunas which does not contribute to being a good saunaclimate but allows them to staple a large amount of people in their facilities. Don't worry, we are also quite sensitive for this tendency. Soon we will open a new large sauna with a bigger capacity and - yes - an inside waiting area. We don't understand your complaint about our inside saunas not disposing of an "airlock". As far as we know there is no sauna in Belgium offering inside saunas with an airlock ... Also a pity that you didn't try our kitchen. It is fresh, totally prepared inhouse and it receives excellent comments. Our food prices don't reflect our "cheaper" entrance price but the quality of the ingredients and the preparation cost. And all this is offered to you with minimum waiting time and a big smile. We regret that there was a mistake in your bill. Nevertheless, your statemant that we "will try to scam you" and add extra items on a bill, is ridiculous. When checking-out, every item on your bill is read to you and a printed receipt is given. This because we are not perfect and we also make mistakes, just like all human beings. But once again we apologize for that. And whew, fortunately you noticed are cleanliness and hygiene. It is a compliment we receive all the time. We believe it is important that, when people are naked, spaces should be spotless all the time. We realise that Katara isn't the ideal sauna for everyone. But since opening, two years ago, we are a largely appreciated newcomer in the Belgian sauna landscape. Fortunately, lots of people visit us regularely. We wish your girlfriend a speedy recovery. That she may get rid of her cold and feel better soon. Thermen Katara

My wife and I went to Katara on a cool damp Sunday in July. It's a nice place, but not on the same scale as the wonderful Carolus Thermen in Aachen or Neptunbad in Koln. I can imagine with it's large lawns and sunbeds it would be a great place on a warm sunny day. It has only five saunas and one steamroom, so is quite limited compared with German spas. The people were all very friendly. Our only complaint was in the restaurant where we had to wait an hour and a half, and people who arrived after us received their meals and left before we were even served. The food was awful. My pasta dish was so solid with anchovies it was pretty much inedible. I left most of it.

Take it from an experienced spa visitor: you won't be disappointed when visiting Katara.

The staff is friendly, the location is well-maintained and clean and their restaurant is the ideal place for a surprising dinner.

It goes without any doubt that we'll be back soon.

We visited this complex on a chilly day. We had a Bongo bon. There is no need to take a reservation as the complex is quite big. We stayed for around 6 hours and managed to try the Finnish, the Thai, the Japanese and the Arabian sauna. The experience in these four is quite similar in our opinion. We liked the Japanese one as it really invites you to lay down. We followed a 'aufguss' in the Thai sauna. We were in the end of the line so we needed to squeeze in. Come well in time if you like a specific spot (especially the lower places). The line already started forming more than 10 minutes before the session.
We also ate at the facility and the meal (spaghetti) was decent. As in all saunas drinks are quite expensive. I hope one day sauna complexes come up with a water forfait. One day. The end of the session was challenging. You get a slice of orange half way. But no drink (water/tea) in the end as is common in most saunas.
We were affraid there wouldn't be enough relaxing space indoors as it is limited but at no time we didn't find a spot. So they cleverly calculated this.
The crowd was mixed, of all ages and couples and singles. We never felt uncomfortable.
The outdoor pool has a nice temperature, also on colder days. Which was nice. We will probably return. Overall good experience.
