Great spot for lunch or snack from the café. Coffee, treats, wine, flatbread...lots of options for any time of day. The galleries are very cool and lots of seating options throughout. Our favorite spot was the roof deck - allowing gorgeous views of the ocean. Definitely worth a stop!

I have stopped here a number of times - whenever I drive up the coast to Big Sur. This is a very attractive gallery in a beautiful setting. There is everything here from expensive fine art (some by famous artists) to art and crafts by California artists that is quite creative and affordable (like handmade soap). Whether a person is decorating their multi-million dollar home, or you're a more average person (like me) and want a creative birthday or Christmas present, this is a great place to look. Don't judge the gallery by the expensive stuff that you first see when you enter the gallery. The gallery is deceptively large and the affordable stuff is more toward the back. I usually spend a lot of time just walking around the gallery and almost always leave with something I purchased. The people who work there are nice and always give me the lartest news on where the local condors are being seen! This is a must stop if you are in the area, and have any interest in art or crafts!

First time visit to Big Sur, and I had a vision that somewhere along the scenic road there would be a cafe with great food and a wonderful view. After driving miles and finding only rather disappointing viewless cafes attached to doubtful motels suddenly we saw Coast Gallery/Cafe - Lo! My dream was realised.

First, the people there were charming, welcoming and helpful - some old reviews speak of different experiences, but I had only positive encounters. Second, the coffee was great and the food very nice. Third, that view, oh that view!

Add in that the building itself it beautiful, lots of quirky nooks and crannies and there is a lovely gallery of art and sculpture; what more could I want? Well actually to be able to afford some of those artistic items ;-) If ever I'm in the area again this is where I shall refresh myself.

What a special and lovely place, set in one of the most beautiful spots on Earth! Gardens, art pieces, architecture, and creative, delicious treats. Healthy and gourmet. Wines from the area. Very friendly. Great food for a hike. So happy we stopped here!

Title: Big Sur Drive – Wonderful and Lovely
Date: 21.06.2016
Big Sur Coast is known for its scenic beauties. The coast is world renowned. Drive followed by rocky and picturesque California coastline on the side of Pacific Ocean.
We started from the residence of my son at 875 Lock Haven Drive, Los Altos. My son, his wife, and my daughter were periodically on the steering. My wife and grandson was the tour companion. On the way my son purchased breakfast packets.
I came to know that the coastal scenic drive begins in Monterey and travels to San Luis Obispo.
The Big Sur scenic drive travels alongside the Pacific Ocean with spectacular views in every direction. Mountain on the left side and Pacific Ocean on the right is worth mentioning. We saw a lighthouse in the ocean and few ships. My grandson was delighted to the ships floating and moving. On the way we could see many beaches and points of attractions. But we could not see all of them. We spent ample time at the Pigeon Point.
Pigeon point: Pigeon Point Lighthouse was built in 1871 to guide ships on the Pacific coast of California. It is the tallest lighthouse on the ocean on the West Coast of the United States. Pigeon Point Lighthouse is still an active Coast Guard aid helping navigators. The lighthouse and the surrounding land have been preserved as Pigeon Point Light Station State Historic Park. This park is a California State Park. The lighthouse is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and designated as a California Historical Landmark. I took photos of the Lighthouse and Sea lions at this point.
From this point we started. On the way we saw many letter boxes. On interrogation we came to know many people reside on the mountains. It is difficult to deliver letters to all the recipients for obvious reasons. So are the letter boxes at the road level.
After driving further I noticed a board River Street (Downtown Santa Cruz). I took photo. After driving further we reached Lucia Point, In fact taking lunch at Lucia Lodge was planned. About a year back my son stayed his wife and son in the lodge for two days. That is why he advocated for the meal and the sight. No doubt that we all enjoyed the lunch. But what we enjoyed more is the scenes in front of dining table under umbrella.
While returning, we could view a yellow colour Cactus.
The spectacular beauty I enjoyed during Big Sur Drive will stay in my memory for ever and ever after.

Given a warm, beautiful day this Coast Gallery & Cafe are a wonderful stop while touring Highway 1 through Big Sur!

We came from Carmel, targeting around 10:30AM for our perusal of the very interesting art exhibits and to dine on the rooftop overlooking the highway with an expanse of the Pacific Ocean. The food portions are large so splitting an order makes the cost an actual value. We thoroughly enjoyed salmon lox with creme cheese, bagel and assorted peppers, onions and capers.

The gallery location is 18 miles from the Bixby Bridge overlook to the North and 6 miles heading towards McWay Fall to the South.

Note: When you reach the entrance arrow to Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park just park along the highway and walk into the State Park for the short stroll down to view the gorgeous Fall or to the Southern end (west side of highway) for the Overlook Trail steps down to the Fall vistas!

Enjoy and don't forget to stop!

We pulled off Highway 1 in search of coffee.this little cafe had big service and a great Latte. We shared a jam croissant which was fresh and well made. The view was excellent from the deck top dining area. When we pulled in there were three cars. By the time we left the lot was full. There is a couple of art shops below that have a wide variety of interesting items. We would stop again.

My first trip to Coast Gallery was 1983, my last one 1993. It's easy for a gallery to change its aesthetic over the years, but Coast Gallery is still full of wonderful artwork you won't see anywhere else. I bought my first "art" kaleidoscope there in 1983, and bought another one this trip. Glad they are still there and showing us the work of wonderful artists!

Loved the gallery and the staff was very helpful and friendly. One of my favorite stops when driving down highway one. The cafe is open and has a wonderful view and reasonable food. A must see you won't regret it.
