Arrive early and find a parking space on highway 1. You can park inside the park by paying a 10 dollar fee. We arrive around 10:00 on a beautiful Saturday morning. The parking lot is pretty small. Lots of folks were able to park on highway 1 and walk underneath a tunnel under highway 1 that lead to the parking lot of Ewoldsen trail head.
We hike Ewoldsen trailhead early in the morning. Bring some mosquito or insect repellent. If you have a camera or cell phone with phone capability take a photo of the map located next to the restroom. You will need that for reference since the park may have run out of maps or don't have any to give out. I will use this map as a reference while writing my comments since it has the miles printed on it. Head to Canyon Trail where you will find a small waterfall. From the waterfall, return back to the original trail. Proceed to climbed the hill. Approximately 1.50 miles from the picnic table area you will have to make a decision to either go left or right (loop). From the photo of the map, we decided to go right (.30 miles ,75 miles) as we are heading up the mountain. This part of the mountain is pretty much in the shade. After you arrived at an interception where you will find a wooden sign Water Trails up and Ewolsen Loop, take a rest. This is the point where you can continue toward Water Trail but we decided to head back to complete the loop. We headed toward the .52 miles and .52 miles trail (going downhill) no shade. As you approach over highway 1 you will see the beautiful coast from above. Once you complete the loop return back toward the main campground. Hope this information help for future visitors.

Great trail. One of my favorite experiences of our trip around northern california. Loved that it felt like an actual hike compared to much of those in PA. Redwoods are amazing.

Wow, my wife and I made the hike on Monday, July 12. For a couple of flat-landers, we did pretty good. The trail takes you through magnificent redwood groves with quite a number of switchbacks, but the end result was amazing views of the ocean from a thousand feet above. It was well worth the hike and the weather was great along the way.

Love to hike inside the wilderness. The weather is quite comfortable in the middle of hot summer. It offers quite challenging hiking path for beginners, but it's still fun to explore 👍

Starts in awesome fo a hundred or so yards then disappoints-closed signs that stop any progress. It looks like people go around. Nasty restrooms at these place-too bad it has massive potential to be awesome.

We did the six-mile loop on Christmas morning and it was just spectacular. It's pretty much straight up the first half of the hike, then straight down. A moderate-to-difficult hike depending on your fitness. You walk through redwoods, beautifully maintained paths, then meadows, then a spectacular vista. Just lovely!

Ewoldsen trail is a great place for hikers looking for panoramic views of Big Sur coast. The hike offers sprawling redwood groves, a waterfall and creekside trails with many climbing opportunities! The complete Ewoldsen trail can take about 2-3 hours, and is mostly uphill with some steep inclines so bring water, wear sturdy shoes and get ready to have a good workout!

Hiked this trail in about 3 hours. When we got to the fork, we went clockwise. Strenuous ascent but the views at the top were amazing. Bring camera, snacks and plenty of water of course! ;)
