Astronomy and Telescopes in rural France...
Feb 2018 • Business
For anyone interested in astronomy and/or moderately large telescopes this is a superb place to visit. It is a little out of the way, but there is ample parking. Visiting is allowed only on particular days/times, so be sure to check before planning your visit. Visitors get to see the magnificent 1.93-m telescope (manufactured by the UK company Grubb) in motion, and an explanation of the discoveries it has made. Presentations are often made in the Observatory's cinema. There is a boutique that sells cards and souvenirs. Outside, there is a nature trail that is informative about trees and other flora in Haute-Provence. Catering is limited to a vending machine, so plan to eat and drink elsewhere (maybe in Mane or nearby St. Michel). A reasonable understanding of the French language is vital to getting much out of your visit.

Interesting ? (day time visit)
Sep 2017 • Couples
Possibly very interesting (if you speak French), not so good if you don't. A small info sheet is given to non - French visitors. There is a film to watch then a very long visit to the telescope. There is no viewing through it or even opening of the door (which we were lead to expect). People got bored and edged away down the exit before the lecture was concluded. Nice to see the thing was made in England ! Tickets have to be bought in the nearbye town before driving to the site !

A visit to exoplanets
Jul 2017 • Business
For anyone interested in astronomy this is a pilgrimage site. The first exoplanet was discovered here and the observatory maintains its position in the forefront of the research with new technological developments and major programs. The visitor will find the staff welcoming, the displays informative and fascinating, and the locale beautiful. A truly unusual experience that will connect you to the cosmos. There's a lovely ecological site on the grounds for visitors that highlights the flora and fauna of the region.
