5 stars is the maximum, but Svetlana at Kola Travel deserves 10 stars.
Firstly, I made many enquiries before we set off on our cruise and Svetlana replied by return. Later 2 others opted to join us on our private dat tour of Murmansk, and she coped with that splendidly.
The day before we were due to be in Murmansk, the Captain of our ship announced that we would be leaving one hour earlier, due to Norwegian Coastguard requests and potential bad weather. Shock Horror! That would have meant that we would have literally 'missed the boat'. The internet service was unusable on the ship, but the Excursion staff very kindly sent her an email on our behalf, and within 2 hours it was all rearranged for an earlier start. BUT she had arranged for us to visit the Lenin icebreaker 30 mins before it was open to the general public. Goodness knows how she managed that, since Russian bureaucracy has a reputation of being immovable.
The tour: it was great to be on the icebreaker without the general hordes, and after that we visited pretty well everything in Murmansk, including a great drive round the outskirts. The price also included an excellent lunch. Both our guide and driver were excellent, and we arrived back at out ship exactly on time.
Yea, it was expensive, but so well worth it, and we saw far more than any of the oter passengers on our ship.

We had an amazing trip to Teriberka from Murmansk, guided by Frank from Kola Travel.

Frank was a great guide and really knowledgable about the area and Russia in general and was able to answer all of our questions.

The tour was taken in a Landrover which was essential given the amount of snow and ice on the roads.

The scenery was spectacular, especially if you are unused to snow/arctic conditions. The drive there took 3 hours but there were lots of things of interest to see on the way. This tour is good value for money and highly recommended if you are in the Murmansk area.

When we -a group of 5 from Thailand, a country from tropical region- had planned to visit an arctic region for chasing the northern lights and decided to go to Murmansk in Kola peninsula, northwest Russia, the major difficulty for traveling in Russia is of course a language to communicate about no matter renting a car, asking for tour programs and more.

To ease difficulty in communication, I contacted Kola Travel and asked them a lot of questions( in English) about traveling in Murmansk and Kola peninsula and Svetlana always responded me with useful information. We then decided to book a rental car and Husky Farm tour from Kola Travel, and we had an amazing experience of riding husky sledge in a very beautiful sledding track. Great communication, trustworthy company.

We booked a 4 day summer adventure through Kola Travel.

All transfers went smoothly. I highly recommend that you view the rooms that you want to stay in and investigate all options. We ended up staying in Laplandia which is well priced, nicely presented and very friendly, helpful staff. Plus it has a private Banya.

While Monchegorsk isn't as large as Murmansk and is a mining town - it is much closer to outdoor activities - literally saving you 2hrs a day. There are good food options in the town and the locals are very friendly. Plus Leviathan was filmed here so it's famous!

The highlight of the area of course is the beautiful natural surrounds. The tundra is like nothing else!

Sasha is an amazing tour guide! His hiking, orienteering and mountain biking skills are outstanding and he's very, very helpful. We definitely want to come back. Our hike in the tundra was so beautiful and our first time mountain biking was amazing.

The lunch packed by Svetlana is delicious and we are it at one of the most heavenly places we've ever experienced.

Having read some articles about salmon fishing on the Kola Peninsula, I started exploring on the internet about options and stumbled upon Kola Travel. What a lucky find! Svetlana patiently answered all my questions and presented a range of options at different price points. Eventually we chose the Fishing Base Pogorsk in Umba where we spent an incredible week. Svetlana booked the lodge/camp, all internal flights, transfers and accommodations which were flawless. And when one bag went astray on my flight from Moscow to Apatity, she helped make arrangements for it to be delivered to me of charge to me at the camp when it arrived the next day (over 250 km from Apatity). I cannot say enough about her professionalism, knowledge and contacts in this beautiful region for outdoor enthusiasts.

I can not recommend Kola travel enough. Svetlana was so kind and helpful. She crafted the most fantastic three day tour exactly as per what we wanted. It was perfectly arranged and everything went smoothly. We loved every single part including snow mobiling in the Khibiny mountains. The cost was really good value. Make sure you book excursions through Kola Travel.

thanks to svetlana for doing all our ground arrangements. she was responsive, efficient, and reliable. we had a little issue when we were at saami village, largely because they only spoke russian there and we didn’t have a guide. but we managed to enjoy our visit and had a free meal by mistake. all transfers were on time, aurora village, snowmobiling in khibiny, and husky farm were all excellent. we needn’t worry a thing.
