We went for an easy peasy stroll at Angolasters Lake in Sunday under stunning blue skies and amazing views all around, the lake is halfway frozen but the 2 hours stroll on flat with a bit of hilly parts was what we needed. Some of us had crampons put on since the some parts of the path were icy due to too many people use the path and parts of the trail are not in the sun. I thought it was it was ok without crampons but best to be safe than sorry.

1,5 hour walk from Andorra la Vella / Encamp. Beginning very steep, than more flat. Very nice view over Encamp with Caldea tower and over mountains around. Lake itself was real disappointment for me.

So busy, even with 5 euro flat fee for the car park, there was no where to park. Have been here before and this is a pleasant lake to walk round but this time we abandoned the visit. Shame.

A group of us climber up from the parking (be sure to call in t the very helpful visitor centre if it is open (opens at 10 am) Steep climb on a hot day but worth the effort. Couple of places at the lake to get refreshments - snacks or meals and drinks.Worth going along to the Mirador, for the views.

If you are going to drive up to this rewarding lake then keep driving Untill the roads ends in a carpark and hotel/restaurant. The car park is free and the Lake is down a rocky path. You are able to walk around this trout filled lake (day license needed to fish) and there are good areas to sit and relax or just picnic. There is a bus service up to here as well, it is called bus-Engolasters from Andorra la vella and is 1.20€ one way and goes right to the final carpark. Return journey back to Andorra la vella starts here at final carpark. First bus at 9am then next bus not till 10.30am, then 13.30, 15.15, 17.45, 19.15, 20.15 going up and coming down at 9.30am, 11am, 14.00, 15.45, 18.15, 19.45 and very last bus down at 20.45 and that is the complete service. We hiked from centre of Andorra la vella and followed the River up to the Porsche and Seat garages then followed trail or mountain path up to the final carpark (signed for walkers) sometimes no path so you have to follow road. And in one location on path it ends so you have to backtrack to road and follow road up untill new path available. Through the pine forest path was very rewarding. From centre of Andorra la vella to final carpark and Engolasters lake is about 10km and is a moderate walk overall however is steep in some areas. Trainers needed as lots of rocky footpaths. We are 50+ and above average fit. If you want to see some stunning scenery then come to this lake, and for the walkers: this is a good 2 hour moderate walk that gives excellent veiws of Andorra la vella and the pine forests and mountains. The lake is man made but is nice to reach. The lake is on the GR11 trail, so to carry on it is good. Good walking and refuge maps at tourist office.

I took my five year old son on this walk, it was quite easy and he had a brilliant time at the lake spotting huge fish swimming close to the surface. We took a picnic and had a fantastic time, nice for a family outing, even if you don't do the entire walk.

In many reviews I read that it is a very easy walk. Not at all. Maybe, they went in another path. I walked from the Automobile Museum according to the route in the site of Andorra. I am not young, but I am an experienced walker. The most difficult was the height difference - the path was very steep. Frankly speaking, most part of way there is no pathway at all, only stones of defferent sizes. So the way back was not easier than to the mountain.
The lake itself is beautiful but I was frustrated that there was no possibility to swim (I took a swimsuit). I was in July, so the temperature was +35C. The path is in the shadow all the time.
I know that there is another way, more comfortable but longer in three times. My way was 2.5 km, another one is about 6 km
I can recommend this type of walk those people, who are fitted enough, who are tired from city heat and who love nature more than shopping)))

With a Car you have 2 choices either driving from Encamp to the upper parking at 1400m. Or you might drive at the round about at the Petrol Station from close to the Road coming from Andorra la Vella. If you choose the coming from Andorra la Vella you drive 7 km passing a nice little church until you are able to park at the Engolaster Parking.free of charge. There are some Restaurant. Leaving the Car you have some nice path to use the with nice views to the lake. the you total path we you were about 10 km at about 1400m see level. Easy walking not a lot of variation en see level. For young and old.You choose how much you will walk. Restaurants are along the way.
