Sunday 25th October and we drove along the road from Monolithos to Siana, where we saw the sign for Apolakia Dam.

We decided to have a look so we headed off down the road following the signs. It was a very windy road, which seemed to go on forever, around every bend we hoped to see water.

The road was in good condition, but then as we approached the Lake it turned into an unsurfaced road. As we were in a rental car, thought it unwise to proceed, a 4 x 4 or a quad bike would have been more appropriate.

We did stop and walk about, it was an opportunity to see the lake, from close by and the surrounding countryside.

Water levels did appear to be a bit low, dried up areas around the edges, no doubt eagerly awaiting the winter rains.

On a later date we resumed our attempts to locate the Dam, this time approaching from the Apolakia, still no luck. So will have to settle for our views of the Lake.

A nice place for those who like outdoor activities but also very relaxing and tranquil. The staff are pleasant and friendly at the centre too

We were going back from Prassonisi to our hotel in east part of Rhodes. After lunch in Apolakia, we had some spare time, and we decided to visit dam. There is no sense to go there on purpose. If you drive from Apolakia to east, you need to turn left at the end of the village. Narrow asphalt road will lead you to the dam. View of the lake and mountains is nice, there is place to leave a car and there is small chapel near the dam. Good place to enjoy short walk.

Quite a contrast in the water level between late summer & winter.
There is a a small church which disappears under the water in winter.
We have been there a lot & usually drive all the way around as it possible to drive to or from Siana village. Mostly on a tarmac road but there is a short stretch of dirt road which can be tricky to pass sometimes if there have been land slides due to the winter rain.
Its a very quite place with only bird calls or goats disturbing the silence.
