Delightful!

I know I am biased as I share a holiday home in the village of Maël Carhaix but I really can blow our trumpet for this gem of a garden in central Brittany. This garden/park is maintained by the local municipality and has developed over many years with lots of volunteer work from the residents, reflected in the enormous economic choice of activities. The heart of the garden is a large fishing lake, I've swam across it and have had fish leap only a few feet from me. There are two pedaloes which we use for a race around the little islands when the family come over with us which can be hired at the little café, which is open most days throughout the summer period. For the tiny children a beach with white sand has been installed at the edge of the lake and climbing frames, slides and swings a little higher up near the café. For us older souls the greatest source of pleasure is the garden itself which stretches all along one side with another smaller lake in the Japanese style full of croaking bullfrogs in the early summer, rose bowers, shrubberies and herbaceous borders and a stunning collection of Hyde rangers in every size and shape. Cyclists use the garden for their daily exercise, young and old alike, but of course a the same circuit on foot is a must en famille on a Sunday afternoon after lunch. Finally, if you are lucky, you might visit when the gardens host one of the village festivities of which there are several during the year, I can count five as I sit here with my cup of tea in Shropshire.

Lovely Park

We have visited here several times and on this occasion we took a picnic lunch with us. Although we are all fit and could circumnavigate the lake in a relatively short time, we spent over an hour wandering round. My granddaughter was determined, and succeeded in getting a picture of a red dragonfly which refused to keep still!
The gardens were in autumn colours, but there were still some flowers on show.
We have seen a kingfisher here in the past.
We always put this park down as a place to take visitors when they come to France and stay with us.
And it's free!!!
