Nice Place
Nov 2020 • Couples
Much more activity and far more clean than Ajijic Malecon. Many people and lots of things to do. Must see this. Also many different inexpensive souvenirs.

Chapala sign
Feb 2020
This is a great boardwalk to be able to stroll along the water. Almost feels like a beach town even though the water is polluted and no swimming or water sports. It has a pleasant ambience and during the week it was quiet and relaxing. The water looked a bit more bluish than I expected being as the lake is quite shallow. Lots of pelicans hanging out. I'm sure it all takes on a different vibe on weekends and family vacations.
Everyone enjoys getting their photo taken at the Chapala sign and the Beer Garden Restaurant was a great place to get the lake view and people watch.

It's one of the prettiest malecon's I've ever seen
Feb 2020
I've been coming to Lake Chapala for years and I've watched the transformation of this malecon. The city of Chapala is always improving it. The first thing I do when I get to Chapala is take a walk on this beautiful boardwalk. It has everything you'd expect: flowers, walkways out into the lake, lots of benches, restaurants, a children's playground, statues, incredible tile work....

Just a stroll.
Oct 2019 • Couples
A bit crowded on the weekends, mostly locals and visitors fron Guadalajara. Durind religious festivities there is hardly room to walk and let alone park.
A true taste of contemporary Mexican traditions.

A must see when in Chapala
Oct 2019 • Couples
The crown Jewel of Chapala. A place with something for everyone. Take stroll along the lakeside and enjoy the picturesque scenery all around you. Mexico's largest lake offers great vistas which include a large contingent of migrating pelicans in the winter months. Lakeside restaurants offer a wide range of Mexican food at good range of prices. The Voladores from Oaxaca have a permanent pole from which they perform their ritual flight. There's gift shops, lots of liquor and bands offering their music from Mariachi to norteño. A skate park is included and kids rides will range from carnival types if there's a fiesta (good chance) to playground to horseback riding along the lake. The malecón is also connected to a vibrant downtown where you can mix with local but street food or just people watch. This place is popular with Mexicans as they come in busloads and drive in from Guadalajara on the weekends. Very nice upscale, unique, small hotels along the lakeside. Does very get congested in the winter when the snow birds arrive. There is a large expat community community all along the lakeside so English usually available.

Chapala Handicraft Market
Jul 2019 • Family
The handicraft market runs along the Malecon, along the lake. It has all sorts of clothes, hats, toys, shoes, food, souvenirs and textiles. We bought a ukulele and a tablecloth. The teens liked shopping there

The Fishing Malecon
Jul 2019
A pleasantly clean malecon where tourists and locals spend lots of time especialy on weekends. Shop in the many stalls for clothing, trinkets, souvenirs, eats, the infamous charales. Known as the fishing are, beautiful fishermen statues, a nice pier and even hire a boat driver to take you out to Scorpion island or any of the islands on the lake, plus see a different perspective of al the villages dotting the shore of Lake Chapala. A Tapatios ( Guadalajarians) delight for summer vacations or weekend visits, many with summer homes, Chapala is beautiful.

Beautiful small town
Aug 2019 • Friends
This place is an absolute must see. The weather is great. The scenery is a nice step away from the hustle and bustle. It is about an hour away from the city. You can take a boat tour around the lake or nearby islands. You have a selection of nice sit down restaurants or the more laid back street style sit down restaurants. There are also more street food options along the strip while making your way to the lake if you arrive by bus. Take the direct trip from the Central Vieja in Guadalajara (pretty cheap) and walk about 6 blocks. You can also carry alcoholic beverages here, since it is a tourist area.

Note: Carry small change in pesos for the public restrooms. They are not free. They run about 4 pesos, and carry extra tissue in case. The prices at the market are a bit cheaper than the ones in the city for souvenirs.

Beautiful and lively
Jun 2019
We went on a Sunday night, and the vendors and stalls were all set up, with live music and crowds of locals from Guadalajara looking to get away. There was a slight breeze, and the lake really is beautiful, with the mountains in the background.

My one knock is that the lake itself is filthy. I would not swim or fish in it (neither would most of the locals). Also be aware that parking is tight.
