We booked the visit at the Fontina Cheese storage, for 4 people. The lady that sells the cheese in the person that introduce us to the old copper mine. Here they store more than 30,000 fontina cheese shapes. The lady is very kind and informed about the right way to produce fontina, very interesting!!! the visit last half an hour and the cost is only 3 euro per person. SO highly recommended!!! At the end of the visit, You can buy the best fontina cheese!!!

We booked the tour one day before and on the tour day when we entered the premises and told that we wanted to take the tour the lady that sells cheese responded in Italian that she only would speak with us in Italian or French. Since we don’t know Italian and very little French we were not able to see she premises, very sad 😞 16.05.2022.

What to do on a rainy day in Valpelline? Visit the local Fontina DOP consortium! For a few euros you will be given the opportunity to visit a mine for maturing and preserving local fontina cheese, observe the workers salting and brushing the wheels and understand the great work that goes into a product of this caliber. At the end of the visit you can buy Gressoney fontina and toma at fabulous prices, a visit is highly recommended.
