Whilst there is not much to seeoutside, this is an interesting site, with a good indoor historical display. Worth a visit and can be combined with a walk to the river and a train ride!!

It was here that the Scots made their base after taking the castle just before Flodden Field in 1513. A couple o days later, and with James IV killed on the field, the Scots retreated and the castle fell once more into English hands.

This is a great little castle that was ruined by the audio tour. The new handsets are awful to use and don't remember where you are if you pause for too long. This means starting from the beginning again which on a 45 min tour...More

We decided to visit Etal Castle as it was located approximately half-way between our home and holiday destination and we thought it might make a nice break stop. We arrived just after opening, and were the only people there. The staff member was very friendly...More

Lovely gem in Northumberland a little castle to look around for an hour. Visited the village too. Loved their Halloween displays. Easily accessible Could eat a picnic there You get a feel of how a castle was constructed. Plenty to climb and explore.
