A fascinating landscape
Jul 2019
We seemed to be in the Azores during a particularly cloudy and misty time so frequently weren't able to see the 'must see' views. We looked for this in the morning and missed it because of the low clouds but returned later in the day and got to see the rock formation from the roadside viewpoint. If you are interested in landscapes and natural phenomena then it is certainly impressive and worth stopping for (weather permitting!).

Geological formation you can see as you drive by. There is a view point if you want to stop and take a picture

A very Iconic spot in Flores, Azores near the town of Mosteiros. Not hard to miss when heading towards Santa Cruz.

Viewpoint from the Road
Nov 2018 • Couples
You can't miss it. Just pull over at the viewpoint and gaze in awe for a couple of minutes on your way to or from Faja Grande.

Great view of the Rocha dos Bordões from the Miradouro
Aug 2018 • Family
The Rocha dos Bordões is an impressive, vertically striated rock formation in a hilltop. Stop at the Rocha dos Bordões Miradouro (viewpoint) for another spectacular view of the island.

Hexagonal basalt column formation
Jul 2018 • Couples
Have to stop at the right viewpoint on the road to Faja Grande in order to see this. It is looking back from where you came so it is easy to miss. Looks just like in the pictures on TripAdvisor. It can only be seen from a distance (about 500m) so it is just a photo op of an interesting geological phenomenon caused by the fast cooling of lava. There are many such formations in Iceland that are more spectacular and that you can visit up close. Also, Devil's Postpile, and Devil's Tower in the USA are the same phenomenon on a much bigger scale.

Nice view.

You kind if come across it while driving between Lajes and Faja Grande. You stop at the viewpoint, take a picture and that's it.

Or you walk from Lajedo to Faja Grande and then you walk up to it and it looks impressive for a longer period of time.

Anyhow, never saw something like it before. Looks like pipes. Twist of nature.

Rock On
Apr 2017 • Couples
This geological feature on Flores is quite impressive. It must be viewed from one of the miradouros along the highway and preferably on a clear day.

Geological atraction
Apr 2016 • Couples
This place is relatively easy to reach, and in fact impressive. I recommend primarily to interested people, geology, due to unique basalt forms. The rocks are monumental, but paradoxically, the greatest impression they make from a distance, is not so interesting anymore.

One trip to enjoy the magnificent scenery
Sep 2016
The Rock of the Bordões of Flores Island is a curious geological phenomenon originated by the solidification of the basalt in high vertical striations, forming an imposing hill. It is located along the road between the towns of Lagedo and the Monastery. The trip on this road (when there is no fog) is very pleasant and has several stopping points to enjoy the magnificent scenery.
