Notice that Sandeman's winery is on the hilltop, and only way to visit there is by car. Taxi was 10€ from Pinhao railwaystation. Views from the hilltop are beautifull and definitely worth of visitings. Notice also that you have to book all the tours, picnics, etc in advance. Winery tour was a bit boring, but the wines in the wine tasting delicious. Their restaurant wasn't open yet ( I understood it will open later on the summer), and even cheeseboard with the wines should be booked in advance. I maybe also expected that we would have been able to walk more around the winery. After the tour only thing was open was the giftshop (and this seems to be the case in other wineries also).

Disappointing: we were a private group of 4 and wrote at least 10 emails to get a better sense of what to expect. The wine tasting was disappointing, the port wines were ok. The food was not great either. When you go make sure you ask only for port wines, the ( table) wines were not great which is a pity. Douro wines can be amazing. Also the way the tasting was done was not very professional with filling all glasses at the same time and taking all the bottles away for another tasting ( there was nobody else around!). The visit of the cellar was interesting. The location is great and the views of Douro country to die for.

This was included as an excursion with our Viking tour. It began with a drive from Pinhao up a fairly precipitous road with some bends which almost doubled back on each other, but the view at the top was well worth the white knuckles! It is the local Sandeman winery and highly mechanised rather negating the image of the old grape treaders. The guide however was good and took questions. We were given three contrasting tastings including a white port and there was the chance to buy at a fair price. We bought a bottle ofthe white port as it is rarer to find it in England and have been enjoying it with red fruit and ice crram.

Taste excellent wine while overlooking the Douro River with expansive views the valley. Jose took his time to explain wine tastings and Sandeman’s port wines. He provided extra crackers and water to make our tasting experience excellent. A must visit in Douro valley.

Following our Viking Cruise tour of Mateus Palace and Gardens, we visited the Sandeman Port winery for a tour and port tasting. Sandeman is a brand of Port (and Sherry) wines founded in 1790. Its well-known logo features a caped man named Don dressed in a Portuguese student's cape and a wide Spanish hat.
Our guide was good and was dressed just like Don in the logo.
The view is beautiful and some of us enjoyed the ride up (others probably had their eyes closed).

We had a vineyard tour with Manuela as a guide.
She was one of the best guides we ever had, explaining everything in details about vine and wine production and answering any questions.
The tour itself consists of a walk through the steep vineyard, the workshop and ends with small tasting.
There are incredible views of the surrounding river slopes with vineyards.
Highly recommended.

After a tour of the Quinta, we walked through the vineyards to a beautiful clearing with bathrooms and picnic tables. We were served red, white, rose and port with our meal. The view was breathtaking and we were allowed to stay in our picnic space for the entire afternoon. I cannot recommend this experience enough!

I didn't enjoy the tour at all. We were led into long, dark dystopian tunnels that were painted black and we had to stand there for a long time just listening to a man talk with nothing interesting to look at or be demonstrated. Eventually we got outside to enjoy the magnificent views. Why oh why were we in black tunnels that had echoes when we couldbe outside in glorious weather? In fact I started to feel angry 😠. I've been on many wine tours and would never recommend this one.

A really lovely drive up (arrive with plenty of time!). A large style tour but really well done and an excellent guide. Tasting at the end was great and the view was beautiful. Enjoy!

Our guide was excellent. She gave us a different aspect of port wine and the House of Sandeman. It was interesting also by the fact she was dressed as don Sandeman. The winery is beautiful. And by the end of the tour we had 3 Port wine taste. We definetly recommend

Olá. Espero que a informação ainda lhe ajude. Estou viajando de carro. Sai de Porto e me hospedei em Baião. De Baião, passando por Peso da Régua são cerca de 90min. A estrada é bem sinuosa e requer muita atenção. De Régua e Pinhão partem passeios para as varias Quintas da região. Boa viagem.

Hello - im coming in by train into Pinhao to spend the day in the Valley, and looking for guidance about how to spend it. How much is the taxi from the Pinhao train station to Quinta do Seixo? Any other wisdom from recent day-trippers?
