We booked a tour in advance due to Covid restrictions. Interesting history about the beer and brewery which is set in a lovely location. The tour guide was good. Beer tasting a bonus! The sending of postcards was a lovely idea. The postcard was written on the Tuesday and received in the UK on Saturday! Really fast!

We tried to visit the brewery last year and as others have said in the previous reviews, the tour was full & going to be given in Dutch. So, I planned a big group visit to celebrate a birthday and the staff from the brewery could not have been kinder or more helpful. However, I did start the process nearly 2 months in advance of our visit.
We took a lovely 5+ K hike through the woods before our tour and barely made it back (wear sturdy shoes, be prepared for a lot of up & down and narrow paths along the stream that can be slippery & muddy & give yourself time).
Many thanks to our lovely guide Lydia for letting us start a bit late and allowing late arrivals to join the tasting!!!!
The information about the brewery was not the most detailed I've heard, but the atmosphere was festive and fun. We didn't see very much of the brewing process and the movie about the brewery was very cute, but not terribly informative (also mentioned in other reviews).
However, we had a fantastic time tasting four of the beers and all of the adults received mini-beer glasses with the Gnome mascot on them. I thought it was a reasonable bargain at 10Euro per person.
Our group had a wonderful time and we followed the tour with a lunch at La Grange, across the road. Beware - they only accept cash for meals so we had a tight scrounge at the end of our meal and barely avoided sending children to wash the dishes (or a squiffy adult to find an ATM).
I totally understand why many reviews were not so great, and I'm sorry for those who didn't enjoy it. We had a fabulous time and the beer makes it well worth the visit - it is one of my favorites!

Great visit at the brewery and brasserie! The guided tour and beer tasting was at very high service. We were 4 of 20 who didn't speak the tour language so we got the extended version instead - highly appreciated 😃 The brasserie was cool and in line with the rest of the setting. Good food, fab beer and even the kids found it fun!

Maybe it was because we were with a big group or maybe because of the bad snow fall, but we were not impressed by the service.
We could not reach them by telephone to ask questions and the tour guide was very rude. The tour was very short and just showed us one room.
The drinks were fine but there were almost only alcoholic drinks. I don’t want to drink and drive so the only options were water or orange juice. We had to drink very quickly and go, and could not even go to the shop because it was closed.
Do not recommend. Have had better experiences elsewhere.

They’ve done a good job of this tour, recognizing it is a destination venue with little else immediately nearby except lovey countryside and charming small towns. Be aware that there are limited English-speaking tour dates unless you are a large group, but we signed up for a Dutch-speaking tour nonetheless. The knowledgeable and energetic host was so generous to essentially give the tour twice, giving us plenty of dedicated explanations and allowed us to watch the video separate from the group. Way above and beyond. The tasting and gifts are also above and beyond other tours I’ve experienced (looking at you Newport Rogue!), making this a must-do if you are in the neighbourhood and a fan of d’Achouffe. Gift shop is also well stocked, for all your gnome needs;)

Did the tour in Danish as there were not any english tours within our timeframe. But the kind curator gave us a short English explanation every chance he had.
Now i have been to many brewery tours. But this one is unique as it is not just about the process of making beer.
There was more info about why they do certain things. Why IPA's are popular in the US and not Europe. History of hops shortage during the war, use of female hops vs male hops. Why their beer has more head. More of a history lesson on beer which was very interesting.
The tasting was superb and you get a gift tasting glass. Basically you get the La Chouffe, Mc Chouffe, and a choice of whatever they have.
While not a trappist brewery, this was very entertaining. And i am not even a beer guy.

For me visiting Brasserie d'Achouffe was an absolute must as La Chouffe is one of my all-time favorite beers. Of course I booked the tour in advance (which I would recommend) and the staff was very helpful, accommodating my need to change the times, etc. The tour itself was informative, and the guide was very knowledgable. I didn't find the tour particularly interesting aside from the historical notes because I've visited quite a few breweries and brew beer myself. At the end you get to try all the varieties of beer and get a free 25cl glass. The shop has quite a variety of merchandise which is nice if you want a momento and the prices I thought were reasonable. The pub that's next to the shop was nice I thought too, service was friendly. So not the best brewery visit I've ever had but worth doing and a must if you're a fan of Brasserie d'Achouffe.

We visited the brewery on bicycles since we were aiming to sample many beers. This was a good call. You are advised to book a visit here a day or two in advance, tour are offered in French or Dutch. Our hotel in Houffalize sorted this for us.
We arrived a little early so spent a while having lunch and many Belgian beers across the road. The brewery tour itself is a bit of a marketing thing, to be honest, however it’s still good value as you get more than your money’s worth in beer tasting, a nice Chouffe glass etc.
There’s a nice little gift shop attached which sells beer and souvenirs - we got some rather excellent gnome themed cycle tops.
On the whole a nice time was had, mostly because we spent most of it sat in the sun drinking Chouffe in a bar.

We enjoyed a superb tour through this brewery. Quirky, interesting and full of detail. Our tour host spoke both Dutch and English flawlessly. The amount of detail was amazing. The setting is beautiful. The tasting following the tour was great fun. A spacious room overlooking the pond on the property. The pours provide the range of what is brewed there. Postcards are provided that are mailed anywhere in the world which was a nice touch. I highly recommend this brewery tour. Food is available with complimentary drink coupon at "La Grange" located across the street.

I'd love to visit Lachouffe while on vacation in November, but do not want to try to drive while in Belgium (the residents of Belgium should all be breathing a sigh of relief) - is there any sort of bus service or taxis available at the nearest train station (Gouvy)?
