If you’ve ever fancied a trip on the canal, day boat hire is a chance to dip a toe into the water. A great way to enjoy the experience of life on a narrowboat, share time with family and friends, or even make something of a special occasion.
All boats are equipped with everything you need for a leisurely day afloat, including a fridge and a toilet. Just bring your friends and family, food and drink, and after some expert tuition you’re away!
Our day boats are available every day and prices start from just £10 per person – to a maximum party size of 10. Cruising hours during the season are from 9am to 4pm.

We took out a boat for a weekend and had a great time. The staff were helpful and detailed in their induction talk and the boat was well equipped. We made it to Fradley before turning around and going to Weston and back before we returned the boat, peaceful canal and I would recommend going South.

Great day out on day boat with friends! Friendly and helpful staff, comfortable and easy to use day boat, but given comprehensive instructions and advice before we departed.
Nice scenic route up to Saracens Head pub for light lunch via two locks, and plenty of time to return back to base!
Decent price, good amenities on board and lots space for five of us!

We did a 5 day out and back cruise south on the Trent & Mersey to Alweras. 8 locks, lots of bridges, beautiful scenery and wildlife/livestock. Met some of the frendliest people we've ever run into anywhere. Very slow pace (top speed is 4 mph) with much less stress than sailing or powerboating on the ocean: your never more than 20 feet from land, after all. We also got lots of walking in when working the locks or wandering into the towns when moored on the towpath.
Anglo Welsh delivered a very well maintained boat. Over 20 years old but everything was in working order. Our checkout skipper was the most thorough and knowledgeable we've had renting any boat anywhere. He walked us through the boat systems, then showed us how to run the boat by taking us down and through the first lock: you can take these boats out successfully and have a good time with zero prior boating experience.
Our boat was 65 feet long. That was longer than most other boats on the canal and a bit unweildy in tight spaces and through turns. This turned out to be more of a challenge than working the locks (which were pretty easy). If your crew can be comfortable on a smaller boat, get a smaller boat.
When you have limited visibility on turns, its helpful to have a crew member on the bow to look ahead. So crews of two or three are split up for much of the journey. Four is more ideal if everyone enjoys company. Also, consider bringing walkie-talkies so you don't have to shout from one end of the boat to the other.

What a fantastic place hired out a day boat worth doing everything was perfect David was the perfect person to help you through how to use the barge we had a great time going down the canal great fun for first time excellent

We have just had a fabulous day on the Trent and Mersey canal with an Anglo Welsh day boat. This is the best day boat hire we have ever done. The hand-over by Ivan was excellent and the instructions were comprehensive. It made the day perfect. Thank you Anglo Welsh.

Anglo welsh were great but we booked our holiday through HOSEASONS. They were appalling. There were informed by anglo welsh that our boat was double booked on the day we booked it but did nothing about it for three months. We found out three weeks before travelling. They acted as if it "was just one of those things" that we suddenly had no holiday and it took 6 phone calls before we managed to get compensation out of them. The worst member of staff was Ben Crickmore who even hung up on me at one point when I explained how disappointed we were! I would like to emphasise that this was not Anglo Welsh - they tried their hardest to find us another boat, but as HOSEASONS had left t so long there was nothing we could do.

Hired a day boat for parents 50th wa. Was great super informative tutorial but be aware it’s harder than you think to navigate locks and other boats but despite that we had the best day and you just have to go for it and trust your gut. We did have a day of really changeable weather but it was so much fun and so glad we did..

We had a day trip on 5th July we sailed on Daphne great wee boat. Instructions from staff were very thorough and very helpful also a staff member took us to 1st lock which was needed lol. Fab day eas had on the canal there was 4 of us on board plenty of room and everything required ie toilet cooking facilities and crockery and towels etc. Great company and would recommend

We have just hire the dayboat daphne for the day .The member of staff was very knowledgeable about the boat and the area .The boat is well stocked with cutlery plates cups etc .The fridge is very efficient for the size .there is a toilet on board and you have to use this as the ones on site are shut due to covid .The only issue was it was wet and normally there is a mop supplied but due to covid these are removed so do be warned if wet will be slippy under foot so be aware for anyone with mobility issues

We hired 2 day boats and had a wonderful time, everyone at Great Haywood was really helpful. I would recommend a day boat for a lovely day on the canal.
