Stunning cathedral dedicated to the Assumption of the Bleesed Virigin Mary and one of the oldest in Puglia. The Rose window from the 13th Century dominates the front facade. Bronze doors with knockers from 1119 was the entrance to the cathedral, stop there for while and admire the work on 28 panels. The interior is simple, the central nave high makes it magnificent. The empty cathedral, silence and special sun light made the cathedral ad the perfect place to slow down and meditate for while. Troia off the beaten track gem, good place to relax. The town looked very relaxed and without tourist. On the cathedral square you can find tourist office which can handle map, and brochure, they do not speak English.

Lovely building in several colours of stone, and wonderful bronze doors. A highlight of my week in Puglia. Stop somewhere for a taste of the lovely local wine too...

I went to Troia to visit the Cathedral, unfortunately it was closed due to renovation, works will continue for some time. However, I could admire it from the exterior, and it is really a masterpiece. The city centre is also beautiful. Overall it's worth a stop.

We stopped for a visit to the cathedral and our expectations were exceeded. We particularly enjoyed the windows and doors. There are good explanations of the cathedral in English.

This cathedral is stunning beyond words, especially the facade but the interior is nothing less. Fortunately in the piazza facing the bronze doors there is a bench because you need it just to sit and study the details, there is so much to observe. I accused the lady in the proloco office of "hiding" this treasure from out-of-town tourists. With the beaches of Puglia so close I couldn't imagine people not flooding in to see this meraviglia. She said every once in a while a busload of Germans came though. I see now from other reviews that Italians also appreciate what history has given them in heritage.

We did not realy know what to expect when visiting this Cathedral.Set in the middle of town you can regognise it apart from the ogher buildings because on the protruding carved stone hanging off the front facia. Loads of decoration and the doors have some very interesting knockers.Inside it was no less ornate with lots of painting/murals and carving. Very beautiful and worth the visit.
A sweet little man approached us when we were outside and gave us a pamphlet on the church (in Italia).we thanked him and he just dissapeared!

Just look at this cathedral from the outside to have a first glance precise: the lower, rectangular, reminiscent of the low-set and massive temples, blind arches typical of the eastern Byzantine churches and the bow higher than the above 'entrance are the "figure" stylistic Eastern Roman Empire which had replaced Robert Guiscard only a few years earlier: the mixture of styles therefore between north and south europe, with the elite who takes over Norman and Byzantine.

The style thus anticipates what will be a century later, the Romanesque style of the emperor Frederick II of Swabia and Nicola Pisano (or, indeed, Nicholas of Apulia).Truly remarkable bronze doors at the main entrance, kept in an excellent and full of inscriptions and sculptures.

A curiosity is the difference between the right side and the left side, entrusted to two different builders, which evidently ignored each other during the construction :)

My review has intrigued you? well, it's time to go to T.roia, in Puglia and get inside the cathedral if you want to surprise you by columns of polished stone and ancient sculptures, and after the "inside tour" you can also visit the museum of the crypt, just un the right of the church.
