The 'Gruta da Fumaça' is a must if you like interesting calcite formations in a pretty exotic AND cosy environment.
The name 'smoking cave' comes from the fact that it is pretty warm inside and after some heavy shower the water comes steaming out of the cave, hence the 'steaming cave' (Gruta da Fumaça). Interesting to silence for a moment and hear the noises that the bats make when they fly around ... like somebody pinging several fine crystal glasses at a time.
I would like to mention as well that one should try to combine it with lunch time, as there is one of the most charming restaurants next to the cave, 'Restaurante da Fumaça' where you eat with locals and enjoy their local culinary specialties.
You pay only 25R$ and you may eat as much as you want.
The funny thing is that you have to drive quite some distance to end up almost in the middle of nowhere BUT there is working wifi ... amazing.

The cave is pretty huge with many attractions inside. We saw a bat and a tarantula and many stalactites and stalagmites and other natural wonders that will be explained to you by your guide. Do not miss it as it is one of very few caves accessible by public.
