I among many others is a typical backpacker who likes to do things without expensive tours. I visited Altyn-Emel for one night and then Kolsoi lakes for two nights. This is what I found out about Altyn-Emel: 1. There is no public transport AT ALL...More

We visited this park as part of our 5 day 4WD tour in Almaty region covering several national parks. The drive from Almaty is long (around 4 hours) before you reach Basshi village which contains the park ticketing office. There are actually 3 designated sightseeing...More

Superb place. Great landscapes, very impressive. Aktau Mts. are perfect. Name means "white" mts, but in reality they are so colourful, all those different colours rock strata makes the place simply gorgeous. Singing dune is also nice, as well as Katutau hills with the "modern...More

This is a great national park not to be missed! Beautiful sand dunes and stunning white mountains are just two of its many more than worthy sights to explore. It can get pretty warm here in summertime.

Well worth seeing, the white mountains - they are actually cristal (!!) and the sand dunes. They do not often sing by them selves, but you can help them, and it's a lot of fun. Hire the local guides/rangers/gid, they really care for the many...More

You can rent a car in Alamaty. Not sure there's one in the villages. We paid around 30 usd daily fee for an old Lexus 350 which we used to drive around the park (which was not allowed by the rental contract though).
