I only stayed for two nights but I would love to stay for a month. At the foot of a great mountain and in the middle of protected national park, nature is everywhere. During summer bathing on the streams, rivers and small waterfalls (cascadas and cachoeiras) is the main program. The contact with wild animals and births are really a... More

This complex is one of the most peaceful places I've stayed - the main sound track to my visit was definitely the bird song. The accommodation is basic, but clean and comfortable and the surrounding truly beautiful with lots of easy trails for walking. I stayed with a research team for a week long workshop based in the auditorium above... More

The accommodation is pretty basic but clean and hospitable. Definitely former monastery vibes because there are some priests around and religious paraphernalia everywhere. Each evening there is a 6pm mass. The food was homely but good. You sat in the old dining room and got food from a buffet. The breakfast was a big hit with my children. They got... More

The Caraça Natural Park with his sanctuary is a nice scenic area to visit. The trails are beautiful, relative easy and good signed. You will see a lot of birds, flowers, lizards and with some luck also snakes. Beaches and waterfalls are worthwhile to visit. Lunch in the sanctuary is simple but the atmosphere is special, you have to buy... More

We did this after a 2 week trip to the Pantanal and the cooler weather alone made it a nice place to visit. The birds, trails and wildlife made it very special. The accommodations and food are not luxurious, but this is a lovely place to visit. The food is very well made and fresh and the "make your own... More

Visit the monks and check out the Lobo do Guara that are tall slender wolves with the color and fluffy tails of foxes. Historical artifacts and sites to see while taking in a real sense of history.

At first you will pay 10 R$ for each person for the entrance (by car). Next to the parking lot you will find an little restaurant and an merchandise shop where you can buy lunch, dinner, snacks, drinks and merchandies for example t-shirts, postcards etc. Tipp: befor you start your walking trip, make sure that bought enough water, because you... I planned to visit the Sanctuary of Caraça but time was too short, which made me want to go back there with more time, no doubt. It is a century-old church, with ruins, amidst a vast area of environmental preservation. There is a museum, lodging, restaurant and guides to the various nature trails. It is a very beautiful place and... More

This is a most beautiful area of Brazil, with high wooded mountains. On our visit in October 2014 the weather was clear but extremely cold so take more clothes than you think you will need. The rooms in the monastery are not heated!
