Cachoeira is a beautiful and cozy city, it 's a place very cultural with many events happening during the year like Festa D’ajuda, Nossa Senhora da Boa Morte and FLICA. It offers typical and tasty foods like maniçoba, caruru and acarajé, which is my favorite. The city is bathed by Rio Paraguaçu, one of the most beautiful rivers of Recôncavo baiano. Personally I think it is a better place to visit but not to live.

The iron bridge connecting Cachoeira and Sao Felix is a preserved relic of 19th century engineering. Originally built as a railway bridge, today it serves road traffic (one way, cars have to wait for traffic lights). It is still the only connection between the twin towns. One must admire that the bridge has lasted 150 years in humid tropical climate. An admirable feat of British know how. The bridge spans Rio Paraguacu where tides are highly pronounced despite the distance from the Bay of All Saints. One should pay attention to the disused Neobaroque railway station on the Cachoeira side. It would nice to imagine a steam locomotive pulling wagons on this narrow-gauge railway. Traffic on this line was suspended in the 1960s when the road to Salvador was paved and the bus became a faster option to travel. Until the 1950s, the preferred way of going to Salvador was by steamship.
