Relaxing 3 day visit. The cabin was wonderful and the large, screened porch with rocking chairs and a swing was delightful. I loved hiking the nature trail each morning and visiting the spring. We had cold mornings so the spring and river were thick with fog. The boardwalk out to a gazebo on the river is a good place to listen for birds in the morning. This is also a good spot for bike rides to hop onto the Nature Coast Rail Trail. We saw a manatee on our last morning at the spring.

What a great place to get away.we stayed in cabin 5. Perfectly clean and inviting. A beautiful screened porch, a fire ring out back. It's not a 5 star hotel, but we've stayed in many park cabins and this is among the best.

This is a beautiful spring. I could sit and watch it for hours. Nice clean cabins. You must make a reservation way ahead of time. This is a must see. Had a great time here.

Beautiful but small. Not a lot of options but to float in the springs, which would have been lovely I'm sure, but it was so so cold. We decided to leave (even though we just paid $6 entry) to check out Manatee Springs (20 min away) which we heard had a little more to do. We ended up loving Manatee Springs much more. I told my daughter (18 years old) she may want to go to Fanning Springs instead of Manatee Springs due to the much clearer blue water. (She was scared to death of alligators). She went, but said the water was colder and she returned to Manatee Springs. So, Fanning more beautiful, Manatee more things to do like canoeing, nature river walk where we saw alligators, jumping fish, turtles, and snakes, tube rental, etc.

The springs might usually be nice but they were closed for swimming due to high water in the Suwannee. But the state park didn't put this info on their website so we drove 3 hrs to enjoy a swim and picnic. We did the picnic and a short little hike but they need to do a better job of updating the website. And watch out for ticks, our dog picked up bunches of tiny nymph ticks that we had to pick off each other as well.

This is a beautiful park. There was a nice 3/4 mile hike that we walked twice. It has signs around the trail to introduce plant and animal life. The spring is closed for swimming but you can walk around the boardwalk and it is a nice walk. There are pavilions and picnic spots as well as a playground and bathroom facilities. The big problem were the ticks! All of us and our dogs were covered by many, many ticks!

A beautiful afternoon in a unique and well kept FL State Park. Colorful serene springs that flow into the Swannee River I recall. Picnic tables and areas under the live oaks draped in Spanish moss. A trail through majestic Cyprus trees. $6 entrance in our car for a relaxing afternoon :-)

We stayed in the cabins and everything was wonderful. Fully stocked kitchen.... even a dishwasher with detergent. My favorite was the wrap around screened porch and swing and an easy walk to the spring throughout your day. The cabin was super clean.... will definitely go back.

What a wonderful little secret we found! Fanning Springs State Park is directly off Hwy.98 in Fanning Springs, Florida. It sits on the banks of the Suwannee River. For years we have driven by the park and never took the time to stop by. This time, my husband had made reservations for a stop over on our tour of the Gulf Coast. If we had know how nice the cabins would be, we would have planned to stay an extra day. The cabins are unbelievable!!! We have stayed in numerous state park cabins in the Southeast, but none of them compare to the cabins at Fanning Springs. They are so beautifully decorated. There is a screen porch around the front and side that is furnished with rockers, porch swing, and picnic table. The appliances are state of the art. It must have been the largest bathroom I have ever seen in a cabin.
We look forward to returning to Fanning Springs State Park, along with our family and friends.

We took a girlfriends getaway weekend to Fanning Springs state park. We stayed in Cabin #4, which is the handicapped accessible cabin. First impression--WOW! When you walk in, you generally expect a musty smell in a cabin. Not so here. Fresh, lemony and clean are what comes to mind. There is a full kitchen, gas fireplace and 2 bedrooms. The bed was the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on. The linens were all freshly laundered and wrapped in plastic. Yes, we had to make our own beds, but at least we knew they were freshly made. The bathroom was very adequate. The screened in porch with rocking chairs and porch swing was great. We used the fire ring outside each night. It was so quiet and peaceful (only 5 cabins, and all were full). We were within walking distance of the springs, where this is a roped off swimming area, big playground for kids and hiking trails. The only downside--we didn't know we had to give 24 hours notice to rent canoes or kayaks. The Suwanee River is so clean and clear and just peaceful to sit in the gazebo on the boardwalk and watch the boaters and birds. Loved it, loved it...can't say more, except I'll be back!

Can we swim here in mid march?

The water stays a constant 72 year round, so that depends on you. We went to Silver Glen Springs yesterday and snorkled - no wet suits. We were good until we got out.

Can we see manatees in the wild at Fanning Springs this time of year? (Dec 2015) Thanks!

Manatees can usually be seen between late November to mid-March, depending upon the water temps at the time. The colder the outlying waters to more apt the manatees will come into the 70 degree waters of the springs.

In August we are considering coming t the restaurant. We will have 18 - 20 people. Is it best to have a reservation? Friends are coming in to Port Canaveral. Is it far from the port? It is a celebration of 80th birthday for my sister. Possible to have birthday cake for dessert?
