We were looking for a beach without all the wind and and flying in our eyes (which we got at the beach in Hout Bay almost every day, unfortunately) and without the big waves. We found this little sequestered tidal pool by St. James on False Bay. The beach was small, and there was a small area for swimming with no waves, which was nice for my kids. Not sure if we were just lucky or if it was the big mountain behind the town, but there was almost no wind the day we visited. As a bonus, there were the picturesque multicolored cabins behind the beach, and a tidal area next to the beach where you could climb over the rocks and see some small marine life in the tidal crags.

St James Beach offers one a delightful place to sit and enjoy a seaside swim in a safe environment. The water is not as bone numbingly chilly as the Atlantic Seaboard side and there’s always a great mix of old and young enjoying the tranquil beauty that the sea provides.
Stroll down from the St James station and under the railway line. Plenty of parking a a great place to enjoy with friends and to make new ones 💙

This beach isn't particularly special by South Africa standards and there are better ones to visit on a day trip from Cape Town during your trip. However, the colorful changing rooms on St. James beach are fantastic, well worth a quick stop just for these photographs.
If you rent a car for a Cape Peninsula tour you can divert across to St. James for a quick, 10-15 minute stop to take these lovely photos.

A nice beach to go past on your way to cape point. It has iconic brightly coloured boxes on the beach. It's well maintained and a good place to visit during most months.

A great beach to spend the day or the evening having sun downers watching as the sun sets. The tidal pool is a great attraction and during holiday times this beach is packed - otherwise it is generally not too full.
It is one of the few beaches protected by the mountainside so is basically wind free making for enjoyable swimming although the water can be cold at times.
The colourful beach huts add flavour to the quaintness of the beach. With the backdrop of the mountains, one could not have asked for a more picturesque scene. The trains going by add more flavour to the atmosphere.

I have just been given a place in the St James (retirement home, which used to be the Hotel) So I am very pleased to check this out, and keep feeling excited about my move (next year). The food is excellent, and every Wed. and Sun. lunch there is a buffet to die for! For all of R90 you can eat yourself to a standstill!.A good way of entertaining! Just don't go over a weekend - very crowded beach.

This beach is a photographer's dream. The colorful beach houses and tidal pool are quite picturesque. This is a great place to swim safely in the ocean (tidal pool) or for young children. The sandy part of the beach isn't very big so I don't recommend it for serious tanners.

I wanted to come here just to see this attraction. We came close to the sunset so there wasn’t a lot of people so that was peaceful and quiet.
The whole area of it was amazing in comparison to other places I’ve been in.
Great place to come and relax for a couple of minutes ;)

Great place to picnic and swim in the tidal pool. The beach is not too big and does tend to get busy but it is a lovely location and it's proximity to great eateries is a big plus!
