Great find on our own door step
Feb 2020
Seen a sign post for this vineyard and thought, why not? So very pleased we made the effort to stop. We were travelling as a group of four and upon arriving at Mountainside Wines the first thing we noticed was the cellar door (an actual door as the sign, look for it). We were met by Jane and Hunter (the dog) and from there we werer treated to a very informative explanation of the vineyard and wines. They have some great wines here and we were lucky enough to be invited to sit on the verandah of the Blue House to enjoy a glass. The surroundings are fantastic, peaceful and media free. Go here and enjoy the experience.

Wine tour
Oct 2019 • Couples
We started our awesome wine tour here, Shane was our tour guide for the day. Shane and Jane are the owners of this fabulous slice of grape heaven. A beautiful part of the world, fabulous wines and great company. The cheese platter, shared whilst overlooking the vines, was a pleasure. I highly recommend a visit to this great winery.

Welcoming hosts and a beautiful spot.

Tasty wine was just a bonus.

What makes any place worth visiting is great people. It's a humble and welcoming place, hosts are awesome. The wines are also exceptional, the three varieties allows for a more focused tasting and a great opportunity to compare wines from season to seaon. Cheese platter was fantastic. Thank you :)

Where do we start. No phone reception, No internet. No TV.
How deliciously refreshing, talking, reading, listening to music.
We had 5 nights at this lovely little winery in the Blue House.
The old post office nestled at the feet of 3 mountains and set amongst the vines of a family run micro winery.
The accommodation was clean and tidy with great facilities.
Very good cooking facilities, small oven, microwave, hot plate, Webber style BBQ. We were left wanting for nothing. Jane told us she would whip up a homemade meal if we liked, however we bought our own supplies with us as I love to cook, but if you don’t Ararat is about 20 minutes away. On arrival we were greeted warmly by Shane & Jane, we were shown around the property and given a private wine tasting, then taken back to our room with 2 glasses of Mountsinside Nebbiolo.
There is a gorgeous little deck with a table and chairs, the kangaroos come in to nibble on the grass. The moon rises above the vineyards, and being near a full moon was a sensational setting. It was very romantic.
We chose Mountainside as a destination as it is nestled between Avoca and the Grampians wine regions.
Mountainside is run by Shane & Jane and their welcome and hospitality could not be greater. Wine tours can be booked with Shane. This is a must if you are serious about your wine. Being wine makers Shane & Jane have access to a much wider variety of off the map vineyards. We were so impressed we did two days of touring. The first day we headed out to the Pyrenees region. We visited Taltarni, Dalwhinnie, and Sally’s Paddock and then to a gem that Shane suggested. Dog Rock Winery. The passion and information you receive when speaking direct to the farmer/ wine maker is outstanding.
The second tour was to the Grampians. We visited Halls Gap Estate, Pomonal (Great home brewed ginger beer) to clear the palate, and then to Shane’s suggestion of Clayfields and A.A. Richardson. What an experience. There is no way we would have gained access to most of these vineyards without the help of the lovely team at Mountainside.
On our last night Shane took us up to the mountains in his 4WD. Our destination was the to the top of this rock plateau that looked out over the Grampians and Pyrenees. A bottle of Shiraz and a cheese platter as the sun went down was as spectacular as it gets, even the added thrill of a rock wallaby coming to sun bake on the rock with us. What a way to finish our 5 days. Exceptional experience. Thanks Mountainside.

Relaxing Break at a Winery
Nov 2017 • Couples

Mountainside Wines

During our visit to the Grampians my wife and I stayed at Mountainside Winery at Mt Cole.
It is a delightful peaceful estate with views over the vines where the hosts Jane and Shane make you feel most welcome. The winery specialises in the Italian grape “Nebbiolo”, but it also has a nice Shiraz and Viognier. The Blue House where we stayed was originally an old post office that has been refurbished and is secluded and very comfortable & clean.
A range of cereals, bread, jams, honey, tea & coffee were provided for breakfast. Lunch or evening meals could be ordered if required. We stayed for 2 nights and had a very nice home cook meal on both nights.
The winery is situated so as to be able to visit the Ararat, Halls Gap, Stawell & Great Western wineries as well as taking in the lovely bush walks of Halls Gap before retiring to the serene setting of Mountainside.
Highly recommend

Wine, wildlife and accommodation in a stunning setting
Jan 2016 • Couples
We booked two nights in the Blue Cottage which is a self contained cottage on the winery land. As well as wine tasting there is an abundance of wildlife at your door step. We saw kangaroos, wallabies, kookaburras, parrots and an echidna! A beautiful bush setting with very friendly hosts and a great place to recharge, take walks and enjoy the tranquility. We also visited Mount Langi Ghiran winery which is just sensational. Great spot to break your travel interstate or take a weekend to relax and refresh. Breakfast supplied but bring other meals or head to Ararat nearby.
