This is the site where Queen Joan of Naples was murdered at the command of her adopted son Charles III in 1382. It’s a dramatic site that dominates the view to the city. On site is also an old building where dead peasants where once covered in lime and dumped down the ravine. The old trap door still exists, though the practice ceased in 1865. One can also see the ancient path that Hannibal took through this part of Italy. You can’t drive directly to the site, but it’s a nice walk through an old neighborhood to get there.
