- MarthaLaHave, Canada4 contributionsA delightful place to visit for all ages! This was the most wonderful place to visit. Our little kids loved it but so did the adults! Lynne and David personally give you a tour of the grounds and you get up close with the llamas, feeding them and learning about them. The different llama personalities shine with Lynne and David introducing you to them. They are so lovingly cared for and nursed back to health here for the best quality of life. So much better an experience than a zoo and supporting a wonderful cause. It is an honour for us to live our passion helping the animal kingdom, even if it is in such a small way and to meet so many wonderful people through sharing this passion is icing on the cake of life.Written March 19, 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited October 2023Traveled with familyWritten October 10, 2023
- Brigitta2 contributionsUnique and Feel-Good ExperienceA really wonderful experience! A fun way to spend a weekend and the Llamas are all very friendly. You can tell they truly care very much for their animals. And their customer service is excellent. Their contact response time is quick and when I bought a pair of slipper from their store that didn't quite fit, Lynne helped me find the right pair. I've been told they may open a cat cafe soon, and am excited to go back.Your visit helps the rescued llamas too. With each visit, the shy or abused or neglected animals become more confident, watching their new friends take carrots and apples from hands of people they previously considered to be threatening or scary. Eventually they learn to take treats too and it is a thrill to watch a llama accept its first treat and as much of a thrill to be the first to give that treat. We look forward to seeing you both again.Written March 19, 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 9, 2024

- Free2FeelCalgary, Canada20 contributionsAmazing experience! We decided to explore the area while camping on Shuswap lake. Lynne and David created something truly amazing, they dedicated their lives to saving llamas, alpacas and cats and the place is so unique! You need to book your visit and Lynne will tell you about each one of llamas and alpacas, she knows all theirs stories and characters, as if they were her kids. My children and I enjoyed to learn and interact with llamas and alpacas, we fed and pet them and had such a great time! The sanctuary is a must see if you are in the area, you won't regret this visit.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten September 14, 2024

Feeding the llamas. There are so many llamas and alpacas in the sanctuary and although some are shy, others love to take carrot sticks from our mouths and they are so gentle. The blind alpaca was so much smart. There are lots of trails through the 30 acre park, with a big pond and a creek. We saw the coyote den and the llamas don’t seem to mind the coyotes. The llamas hide in the forest when it’s hot, but they come out to eat the treats. There is a special hospital barn for the elderly and the injured animals. Mikey and Brownie are very old and they don’t like to walk very much, but they still like to eat apples and be cuddled. I learned so much about llamas in 2 hours. I will definitely go again.

We truly appreciated your visit and look forward to seeing your friends when they come to visit British Columbia. The llamas were all lined up at the fence this morning, wondering if you would be returning!

First visit was such an excellent experience that I've come back many times! The Llama Sanctuary is such a wonderful place and does such an excellent job taking care of llama's and alpacas in need!
I recommend it to all my friends and family who visit Chase. It's an amazing experience Forest Bathing (being in nature and surrounded by nature) together with free roaming, tame llamas.
You get to handfeed the animals! llamas are very polite to handfeed and it's amazing to feel their warm breath tickle your hand. Their noses and lips are very soft and it's like a loving tiny cuddle when they take a carrot gently out of your hands.
It was fun to go with our son as well as our elderly parents (on another occasion).
It's a truly unique and wonderful experience, rain or shine! Everyone loves it.

What a pleasure it was to see your interaction with The Llama Sanctuary Family! Your descriptions say it all; they are wonderfully unique creatures, each with their own story and it was a joy to be witnessed. We look forward to meeting you, your family and your friends in the future. Thank you !

Some people choose to make a real difference in this world and yesterday we met a couple who really have committed their lives to doing that! We went to the Llama Sanctuary in Tappen, BC just 10-15 minutes from Salmon Arm. This couple came from England to Canada looking for a bit of wilderness. On their journey they came across a Llama that needed a home badly. They were told if they could catch him they could have him as he was wild and a terror. In reality they found he was scared and felt threatened and when they offered him shelter he was a true gentleman ️ This led to them learning about the special dietary needs of Llama’s (he is a holistic vet) and what lovely creatures they are when properly cared for. Their one rescue became two and kept growing as people told them about other abandoned, abused and lost Llama and Alpaca souls. Since then they have moved at least three times, have commited their souls, and have rescued so many! Their group right now is about 50 I think. All the Llamas are there for life as most of them are either old, damaged physically from dietary errors in prior owners, or for some other reason can’t be re-homed. At first, when they had just a few animals they just loved them but one day a lady came to buy a rucksack they were selling and saw the Llama’s and asked if she could meet them. They happily shared and then she told her friends and they told theirs and soon they were doing tours. They realized that this provided socialization for their fragile animals, as well as some money to help pay the bills. It also helped them educate people about what lovely animals Llamas/Alpacas are and their special needs to grow up healthy. They have now founded a charity to help support them and set up a trust to ensure the Llama’s always have a save place to live. They don’t breed or sell, only rescue. ️
We spent a wonderful couple of hours meeting, hearing the animals’ stories, and even feeding and petting them. My fave was a big guy named Raya (spelling?) who came in very timid and half starved. I got to be the first outsider to be able to touch him and even got a kiss on the nose with a bit of patience️He stole my heart! Then there was the one who came in unable to walk for months due to his insanely over grown coat full of his own bodily waste He had been abandoned 11 years prior. He was so depressed even after being freed from his coat and learning to walk again until the little blind Alpaca that none of the other animals liked (because of her strange head movements) caught his eye. Now they are bonded and he’s so happy he hums while she’s around and that’s how she locates him!️️️
I know it’s a long post but their story really needs to be shared, and this couple are constantly in need of funds from visitors, corporate or other sponsors etc. They asked us for nothing but our entry fee and $5.00 for a huge bucket of chopped carrots and apples to hand feed. They were the sweetest most humble couple who only told us of the financial side of things when I asked If you are looking for a lovely time with some really special animals, drop by this amazing place. Remember to call ahead as the tours have to be booked. We got our own private tour (it’s not crowded and just the couple working there) but they have a LOT of work to do so they have to space things out nicely, and don’t want to stress their lovely beasts!

What an amazing experience visiting the Llama's and cats! Lynne and David are the most incredible hosts, and very accommodating to our group. We joined them from the Shuswap Childrens Association with a group of children and youth with support needs. Our Staff and youth loved the different stories about all of the Llama's, it touched our hearts. Gemmy and Eddy Stole our hearts, we are looking forward to visiting them again!!
Thank you Llama Sanctuary!

Every llama has a story, some are sad stories, some are happy, some are funny and some are downright scary ...a bit like people really! :-) We look forward to seeing you again and since you visited, The Llama Sanctuary has received almost twenty new residents with many more stories to share. Blessings
