Large reclining Buddha in Phuket
Feb 2021
A large golden reclining Buddha situated in phuket town right off the main road.
Visit the temple next to the reclining Buddha. A very colourful setting inside.

Great atmosphere

Great place to visit if you stay in the neighborhood. Unusual architecture, bright colors. There are stairs going up to Budda.

Quick visit
Jun 2019 • Couples
We called in here while on a tour round Phuket with a driver and are glad we did,
The reclining Buddha is so big and colourful, and despite being right next to the main road it was still nice and peaceful.
Well worth a visit.

TUESDAY BIRTHDAY FOLKS THIS IS YOUR BUDDHA
Mar 2018 • Couples
The grounds are just off the 402 and worth a visit. The reclining buddha is in good condition as are many of the buildings/temples (be sure to cover the shoulders and the legs) Lots of interesting little structures to observe as well as the 'fun' collection of figurines at the entrance (everything from dinosaurs to frogs).

Absolute Tourist Trap
Oct 2016 • Couples
Wat Srisoonthorn was originally called Wat Lipon and renamed by King Rama 1. It was built in 1792 and I am sure there is a nice original story re this Temple but for us it was a total tourist trap that caters to many hundreds of Chinese tourists that arrive nonstop by the bus load.

Nearly everything including the main Temple is locked up. There is one huge area that is open so in we go. Inside were many tourists sitting on the floor listening to their Chinese tour guides giving them a history lesson, well we assume that is what was happening and then they are directed over to the shop counters which are all around the inside of the building with thousands and thousands of various gold Buddha’s and amulets.

Now the selling starts.

There were about 8 Chinese staff whose job was to sell these Buddha’s.

No, we do not want to buy a 780,000baht Buddha lol. It was obvious this is no longer a nice peaceful place, it is now only there to sell Buddha’s to the hundreds of Chinese tourists who come in by the busload.

There is even a coffee shop there with tables and chairs with ashtrays. Wat Srisoonthorn is north of the Heroines Monument on the left side of Thepkasattri Rd.

Not a Temple I would bother going back to.

Peaceful & Blissful...
Nov 2015 • Family
Built on the roof of one of the temple buildings at Sri Sunthorn temple, just south of Thalang in the centre of Phuket island is a 25m reclining Buddha. This is not a busy temple, we've been numerous times and hardly ever seen more than a few visitors. It's right by the main road through Phuket from town to the airport, but it's behind some trees and hard to spot from the road. The place is extremely peaceful and calm.

A different side of Phuket
Jul 2015 • Family
It was good to see this temple and the huge reclining Buddha on its roof. The temple was very quite, few tourists seem to venture far from the beaches. It is very close to the heroines monument and worth a visit if in the area.
