The beach itself is great and has a large sandy beach with plenty of area to sit and relax under an umbrella. The ocean itself is high tides and somewhat unsafe for children but we went there with a 6 and 3 year old who had s blast in the shallow end. There are washroom facilities and places to rent... Went to Hapuna to boogie board and hang in the sun. The beach is quite spacious and the crowd was easily accommodated. The waves were pretty strong, but easily navigated by novice swimmers and boogie boarders. Thx Hapuna Beach.

Hard sand, no rocks, beautiful backdrop. Waves to jump and surf with clear, lovely water. Fair number of folks, especially on weekends. Love this beach.

If you are looking for your typical wide, sandy beach, then this is it. Cost is $5 to park, and get there early to get a decent spot. Other beaches are rocky or little coves (which I like), but this one is more typical of those we have in California and therefore good for kids and boogie boarding. The shallow... More

This is a great beach to walk if for about 10-15 minutes; that's how long it took to walk from one side to another. It certainly is more fun to walk than Waikoloa Beach by the Marriott.

You will need to check this beach out, that offers a wide frontage, shaded pavillions for group gatherings, bbq's, and sandy beach.

The beach and sand here are 2nd to none. Absolutely a great place to hang out. The ocean here can break pretty severely so ensure your ocean knowledge is good enough before you go swimming main landers!!!!!

We have been travelling violently for couple decades and did not see ocean beach better than Hapuna Beach. It is a public one with just $5 entrance fee per car. Picturesque views, sand is like a silk both in the water and the beach. Waves size depend on your location. They are moderate on the left. You would need an... More

If you are looking for a nice beach on The Big Island, I recommend Hapuna Beach State Park. Soft sand, no rocks, not crowded. Plant of picnic tables around. Nicest beach we have been to on this side if the Big Island!
