Whiteman Park is a beautiful attraction, full of the best Australia's wildlife has to offer. The paths around the park, with beautiful wooden bridges over the streams, give people the freedom to get close to nature without really leaving their comfort zone and needing hiking boots. Meanwhile, the tram provides a tour of the major sights around the park, but from a distance.
Chariots of Hire falls into a nice niche between them. The tour guide leads your group (three friends, for us) around the park on the special offroad Segway-style rides. These alone are a fun, quirky experience that take next to no time to get used to, and within minutes you can focus on your surroundings as you glide around the park in style.
All major attractions are covered, so doing the tour early in the day will let you plan which attractions you wish to visit later. However, unlike the tram, you get a guided tour on the front lines, down the paths and through the grasslands, seeing nature up close. We stopped to spy on some kangaroos, birds, even a water snake while crossing one of the many wooden bridges, all from our sturdy two-wheeled mounts.
Mid way through the tour, we stopped for a moment to complete a short obstacle course, once we were used to our rides. This was a great laugh, and a fun exercise to do in the middle of the lovely surroundings of the park.
Everywhere we went, we were turning heads, children gawking enviously as we glided around in style. Its hard to not feel great, getting a private tour of such a beautiful place, trying something new and turning heads all at once.
Our tour was the full hour, and the guide said that on even half-hour tours they can either do the tour or focus more on the riding experience with the obstacles, whatever the group wants to do. I'd recommend getting the most out of it though since even after an hour we were loath to return to walking again!
So if you want to see all the park has to offer but don't know where to start, or if you just always wanted to try riding one of these but never found a chance, then this is the place to be. Cannot recommend it enough and will be back for sure.

I had organised a Team Building/planning day at Whiteman park and after a BBQ lunch we finished the session with a Chariots tour.
What a blast!
After some initial 'practice' we were off. We were all first timers, and the session catered for us all.....from those a little nervous to those in the group who were a little more adventurous.
Jeff stopped to point out various landmarks and spoke of the history and happenings around us.
The obstacle course was great fun, allowing some of the group to show off their newly acquired skills. Plenty of opportunities for photos to be taken.
I would certainly recommend this activity to anyone wanting to try something new. They cater for all abilities and it really was a great afternoon, full of laughs and much fun.

The segways was a great way to see Whiteman Park & had a ball. My mum wasnt sure if she'd be able to ride the segways or not but she was advised if you can stand up then you'll be able to ride them, this was true she picked it up easy & become a natural. Highly recommend it & was very resonably priced!

This was one of the best tourist experiences I've had in Perth. Chariots for hire is set in beautiful whiteman park. A great place for a picnic, a walk, museums, lunch etc etc. the best part of our experience by far was the ride, the chariots are easy to use, very safe and most of all lots of fun. The guide was very knowledgable about the area and passionate about what he did. They we're friendly and I would recommend this to everyone. Brilliant. Thanks

We had a blast! The guides were great, they obviously love the park and were very interesting and informative, we definitely got a few ideas for days out in the park. The park itself is just beautiful, and it was wonderful to see kangaroos in the wild, as non natives this never gets old for us! The hour was a good length, an hour is enough to give you a proper go and not get too tired. We have also been on the Segways in the city and found this tour much better, and much cheaper too! When we have overseas visitors we will be back, and I am also tempted to come back for the sunset kangaroo tour. Oh and my twelve year old and husband loved it too.

If your in Whitman park I can highly recommend doing one of these tours. Ive been to the park so many times Ive lost count, But doing this tour we went into some places I haven't been before. Even supllying a bottle of cold water on a hot day is a very nice touch. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Its a easy ride around the park with a few stops to hear a little about the history of the park and how it come about. About half way you stop in a nice grass area under the trees where they stick out a heap of witches hats where you get to hoon around on the machine for a bit. From here its of again where you go past some of the other attractions in the park. If your coming from overseas this is a great way to see a little bit of the aussie bush. This attraction is only new so I'm sure they will improve further over time. You will finish with a smile on your face and wanting to go again. There pricing is quite reasonable for what you get. Put it on the to do list. Ill be back for sure.

Last month I flew to Perth and whilst I was there visited Whiteman Park where I tried one of the new attractions, Chariots of Hire Windrunner Tours. For those who don't know, a Windrunner is just like a Segaway only better! :)
Not having been to Whiteman Park before I was surprised at how huge the park actually was, so experiencing it on a Windrunner was perfect as I got to see so much more than I probably would have been able to do on foot in the time that I was there, not to mention it was a whole lot of fun in a beautiful natural environment. Jeff was our instructor who taught us how to handle these two wheeled beasts and was also our fabulous guide for the day - his tour was informative, relaxed and very enjoyable – I learnt about the history of Whiteman Park, saw some kangaroos chilling out in their natural environment, was even given a bit of a skills test on our new mode of transport half way through the tour which had everyone laughing, we came across a couple of very cool museums that were tucked away and had a yummy lunch at the local café (this was not included in the tour).
All in all, a great afternoon was had and I think it is the perfect tour for individuals, couples or small groups - I'd even say it is the perfect activity for corporate groups that might want to do something a little different than the norm. Can highly recommend – five stars from me - add it to your ‘must do’ list next time you visit Perth and Whiteman Park!

It's been a while since we were at Whiteman Park now that the children are adults. On this long overdue visit, our group of nine decided to try out one of the newer attractions, Chariots of Hire Windrunner Tours. The Windrunner is like a Segway, an many cites offer tours on these quirky but wonderful personal transport devices. Jeff and Frank were our instructors and guides on this overcast Sunday morning. The Windrunners are not difficult to ride and it pays to listen to the instructions carefully. Once you get the hang of it, it's a lot of fun. Jeff and Frank were wonderful guides and we learnt a lot about Whiteman Park and saw parts of it we did not know existed. The hour was over all too soon and we adjourned to the nearby Village Cafe for breakfast. A truly enjoyable morning.

Never knew that whiteman park had so much to offer and also so much history behind it. Was so much fun to experience it all on the chariots. :p never been on one before and im glad i did. It was so wicked. Jarryd was a great tour guide. The little obstacle course he set up for us was a great way to test our skills and a bit of fun competition near the end of the tour. Had a blast and would highly recomend.
