We were hiking from San Marcello Piteglio over the Ponte di Castruccio along the river to get to the ponte sospeso. It is an impressive hike where you can encounter snakes, foxes and other little animals if you are a bit quiet. The bridge was temporarily closed for repairs, but we had to cross it to get back to our starting point. So it was exciting couse we didn't know what to expect. But we made it safe and sound!

Very nice walk over a canyon with a river. Do not take the walk, if afraid of heights! 32 meters over groundlevel and 212 meter long suspensionbridge. Bridge is made of irongrid, so you can see just right down all the way! No entrence fee and free parking. A hidden gem with very few people visiting. Beautiful mountainviews and great nature.

This is definitely worth the walk from town to cross the Lima River by this suspension bridge. Beautiful views up and down the river with vistas all around.

This suspension bridge is remarkable for at least two reasons.
The first is its character in itself, of engineering work that arouses strong emotions in visitors, being one of the longest pedestrian suspended bridges in the world.
Some reviewers wrote that the path isn't recommended for those with fear of heights. I would fade this statement: I suffer from fear of heights, but I crossed the bridge without major problems. I would say that those who aren't afraid to get on a ropeway, can also enjoy this bridge: it is well protected by closed railings, and even if you wanted you could not fall.
The second reason of interest is that it tells to us of a recent past (about a century ago) in which this region was the center of busy metallurgical industries, today completely disappeared and becoming subject of industrial archeology. It is just to shorten the walking trails of the workers who came to the factories, that this bridge was built, which is also now only a tourist attraction

Easy access to the bridge from the free car park on the San Marcello side of the river
The bridge itself is narrow making it a bit of a squeeze passing people coming from the opposite direction
We visited in early September so it was quite quiet - there is a cafe/bar and children's play area below the bridge which is easily accessed
Well worth a visit but avoid a windy day if you are concerned about the bridge flexing!

This free attraction is a metal suspension bridge over a deep wooded valley and river. The views are really impressive and there is some info in English on boards.
There are a few steps before and after the bridge but otherwise it is accessible for all abilities. It is definitely a place to visit, and there are footpaths into the surrounding woods and village for a longer visit.

The history given and the reason for its construction made it worthy of our time. We walked it to the otherside. A neat and fun place to visit
