We found Tulus on this website, responding to my Whatsapp communications quickly and politely. He was very accommodating, picking us up at our homestay in North Jogja at 3 am. He speaks excellent English, and even holds a Bachelor's degree in English from one of the local universities. Before we visited the temple, he had arranged for all of our tickets, allowing us to arrive and immediately enjoy the scenery without worrying about paperwork. Each of his recommendations for photo opportunities was excellent. What set this tour apart for us was not just the magnificent sunrise over Borobodur, but the intangible benefits that came with the tour: Tulus is the ONLY private tour guide who returns day after day to this temple, and as such, enjoys special privileges with the local guides. Each knows him by name, and prepares a special breakfast for him. After the tour, we drove to several other local attractions (smaller temples, a "poop" coffeeshop, and Prambanan). Along the way, he waved hello to many of his friends, then took us to some excellent and inexpensive lunch spots. It's clear that Tulus is an experienced, courteous guide, who enjoys what he does and enjoys meeting foreign tourists. Not to mention, I checked other private guides for their prices, and he fell well below their quotes. Not only a great time, but great value!. Thanks, Tulus, you made our trip.

It is large but still can finish walking around temple just right amount of time without too exhausted. The art around the wall is very delicated and many has stories behind. I came during low season and rainy season in Dec 19 so better for Sunrise as 2 days raining in the afternoon and there is no light for Sunset (IDR 470,000). I stayed in Manohara hotel as heard the Sunrise and Sunset tickets included and it is quite convenience as the gate of Borobudur and the hotel connected. The hotel itself is soso as it is resort and some years I suppose but if you are specially for Borobudur is very convenient. Reach here in the late afternoon to have a chance to do Sunset and Sunrise again in the next morning (gate open 4.30 am)

Visited this place for a quick bite & liked the food and ambience. Here has few vegetarian options so helped me eat. Fried rice (nasi goreng) was good and loved my chocolate milk shake.

My boyfriend and I spent an entire day with Tulus, who was very friendly, helpful and accommodating. Our trip included a ride to Borobudur for sunrise (dep. 3:30am from our hotel in Yogyakarta), a stop at a couple other temples in the vicinity and a luwak coffee shop, a stop at a massage place, a stop at a local restaurant by some rice fields for lunch near Prambanan, and a visit to the temples at Prambanan for sunset. To top off the day, Tulus brought us to buy a local dessert, Terang Bulan. Tulus recommended catching the sunset at Sewu temples about 800m north of Prambanan to avoid the crowds... and he sure was right! I highly recommend it. We paid for the entrance fees, massage, lunch and dessert separately. The entrance fee for Borobudur included a buffet breakfast, which was surprisingly good! I agree with others about the crowds, but I believe it’s still worth the trip. Although it made for a long day, both the sunrise and sunset were great.

The Borobudur sunrise is best from the Manohara hotel. The entry fee is 450k IDR per person, but it is worth every rupee. The ticket also includes a buffet breakfast and a souvenir. The sunrise from the top of the temple oversees a huge valley though it was nothing like pictures I had seen. The sun rises early in Indonesia and you must reach the temple by 5 AM. I got a cloudy sky on the day and the sun was seen only at 6 30 AM. It gets hot every minute after 7 AM so you must finish the temple walk quickly.
