A place for millennials and IG selfies
Oct 2019 • Couples
We still had some time to kill after Prambanan temple so the driver took us to Tebing Breksi. There were loads of tourist buses driving up. You have to pay an entrance fee as well. It wasn’t much like 20,000 rupiah. People milling around the bottom of this man made cliff. You climb up and basically more people taking pictures. There’s nothing scenic about this place to take pictures of. I understand the hype for the youngsters, wanting to hang out with friends, watching sunset, etc. But if you’re limited on time and far from this place, give it a miss. There’s nothing cultural about it.

My friends and I went to this place as a suggested tourist spot by our driver. It took us quite sometime to reach the place from the airport. We were just buying time before we can check in to our hotels. There was a car park and we need to climb up the steps to reach the top. There are a few spots that the local prepare for a minimal payment to pose for pictures. When we were there the garden wasn't really nice. What interest us was the owl that a kid was minding. We took pictures with it and gave the boy some money. In a way it was sad🤷‍♀️

A Twilight Solitude
Jun 2019 • Business
We went up when most people were coming down as the place was about to close. The dark is coming. But we still have a luxury time to explore few spots for some pictures. It was so calm, peaceful and could enjoy the stunning sunset with Mount Merapi in a far behind. A twilight solitude. Thanking God for this beautiful moment in life.

Selfie driven spots
Feb 2019 • Business
I suppose Breksi Cliff is an abandoned mining site, now turned into yet another selfie driven tourist destination. On top of the cliff is a flat ground with many ridiculously ugly man-made selfie props. The people who "owned" the props charge people for using it. Also you can find people offering to take photos with an owl. These poor owls are being forced to stay awake in daylight just for photos and selfies, the government should act on this matter.

What should've been built on or around the cliff is an observation deck. The cliffs offers a great view to the city of Yogyakarta and mount Merapi. Plane spotters will be pleased to see planes on final approach to Adisucipto airport, you can clearly see the runway from here.

Another Instagram Cliff
Nov 2018 • Friends
I came here on Nov, 2018. It was nearly noon, around 11 am, it's quite hot but not that sunny. The sky was a bit cloudy - but still burnt your forehead kinda weather.
I lacked information regarding this place (what the stories behind, how it was created-or formed, etc) but all I knew it's just a popular cliff or spot to visit based on Instagram. I can't blame them either - and since it's not that far also close to some temples, Id thought worth to give a shot.
What sounds more promising is it has no entrance fee (some blog said), and the actual condition was we may give a donation for its maintenance and development. Not a biggie for me.
The parking lot is capacious, fit to many busses and cars. The road to this place also good enough both by two-wheel or four-wheel vehicles.
It was weekend and full of crowd. Kids, teenager, older people you named it.
At a glance, it reminded me of GWK in Bali, there is an outdoor theater with a huge stone cliff in the background, audiences seats formed around the stage. I expect if there is any regular show for traditional dance or drama (but found no info by far).
What we did are climb the big cliff (there are two stairs if I'm not mistaken), one lead you the small cliff with a small top, and one leads you to the big cliff. The top of the cliff isn't too difficult to reach, there are stairs with clear steps.
And the view is overrated compare to whats shown on IG. The fact it was afternoon, and there is a lot of photo spot with various decoration (not free) which I can't get any point from it.
For me, it's just a flat-ground space with a normal view if you climb to higher ground.
I thought it's either you go early in the morning or late in the evening to see the sunset and night view (maybe?).
If you worry about any food vendors around, you may find food courts with various type of meals in the same complex.
Overall, for those who wonder about this place, please do come, But if you expect something fascinating with a view, make sure you come at the right time.

Breksi - Come on Early Morning or Late at Night!
Jan 2019 • Family
How to get there:
by car / motorcycle. Take the route to Prambanan temple until you reach Prambanan market traffic light. Turn right and follow the main road, after Boko temple you will see "Tebing Breksi" sign at small intersection. Turn left and just follow the road. Just keep your eyes open since the sign is quite small.

Per Jan-2019 visitors are only charged as small as IDR 5,000 / person (domestic tourist) or IDR 10,000 / person (foreign tourist) for entry fee. There is also small charge for car / motorbike.

This place offers beautiful spot with Merapi background for people who love taking picture. There's also Breksi jeep tour organized by local. Mind your own belonging and kids, basically it is a hill so it would be wise to stay alert and always think safety first. I don't think there is medic team in case anything bad happens.

Best time to visit: dry season and early in the morning (less than 08:00 AM) or evening (17:00 PM or more). Night is the best since you can see Yogyakarta lights and feel the romantic ambiance

Dress: T-shirt / casual. Bring your water and umbrella or caps. Wear sport shoes or sandal.

It is located on the top of the hill, so if you take your own car make sure it is in good condition.
