    Beautiful cultural show
    It was a really interesting showcase. Would definitely recommend to go see it. Just take note that some periods of the year, it is indoor instead of outdoor (overlooking the Prambanan temple). Unfortunately in Dec it was indoors so we missed watching with the backdrop of Prambanan temple. It is ok if you don’t know the story prior to the show as there were slides telling the scenario in English as well so that you won’t get lost in the performance. About an hour and a half show, just nice :)

    Enjoy the show
    They had subtitles to go with the play for those who are lost abt the story. Because it’s the monsoon season the sitting was in the indoor theatre but think they could have made an exception if the weather holds up. The Prambanan temple backdrop would have completed the experience

    Being from India and also as I am in the midst of reading the Valmiki Ramayana(there is a traditional ritualistic method of reading), the Ballet experience was amazing. The narration in the form of a dance-drama was very apt in so far as the story (mind you it is a 24002 couplets story) could how well be abridged for the dance-drama to convey the essence the epic. Hats off to Indonesia for giving a wonderful glimpse of this great work which is most sacred to the Hindus. There could not have been a better venue for this classic programme than the precincts of the mighty Prambanan Temple complex. Words are insufficient to convey my appreciation of the Indonesian Government for preserving their ancient culture and traditions despite their transition to other cultural practices'.

    Go for the VIP Seats
    Having the VIP Seats with the cushions was the best decision ever, I am sorry to everyone who was sitting on the concrete. VIP seats came with light snacks and coffee/tea. Nothing to write home about, however. Definitely get dinner beforehand. Overall, the show was amazing! So many theatrics that I didn't expect to see. The Prambanan Temple lit in the background was the cherry on top. Add this to your Jogja Itinerary.

Great live performances of the epic Ramayana saga! The music, dance, drama, lighting and costumes were overall well combined and arranged professionally resulting an awesome show and memorable experience. The show lasts for 2 hours, divided into 2 sessions with 5-10 minutes break time.
The entrance fee is different, depend on the seats position:
* in Trimurti Theater:
- Class 2: IDR125K (160 seats available on the left and right side of the stage).
- Class 1: IDR200K (118 seats available on the left and right side of the stage's corner).
- Special: IDR300K (52 seats available right in front of the stage. Entitled to get free soft drink ).
* in Open Amphitheater:
- Class 2: IDR125K (668 seats available on the left and right side of the stage).
- Class 1: IDR200K (276 seats available on the left and right side of the stage's corner).
- Special: IDR300K (130 seats available in front of the stage, behind the VIP seats area. Entitled to get free soft drink).
- VIP: IDR400K (64 seats available right in front of the stage. Entitled to get free selected drink).
There are 2 theaters available at different close together location, used base on the ballet performances schedule:
* On January to April and November to December 2018, the show will be held at Trimurti Theater; indoor, smaller theater with 330 seats capacity.
* On May to October 2018, the show will be held at Open Amphitheater; outdoor, open air theater with 1,118 seats capacity and Prambanan Temple as stage's background.
The 2018 Performances Day Schedule is enclosed for reference.

First of all, try not to club the Borobodur with Prambanan. Take your time at the Prambanan temple, get a guide and then head over to an early dinner to the restaurant that is set with the backdrop of Prambanan, followed by the beautiful Ramayana Ballet. The story of Ramayana is etched onto the temple walls and that's why it makes it so much more important to go watch the ballet after.

The show runs 3-4 times a week and narrates the epic Ramayana through Javanese dance form and performed along with the Gamalan music. We went in February and saw the show indoors but during the dry season (May-October), the Ballet takes place outdoors against the backdrop of the Prambanan temple.

There's usually english narration that is projected on the screen next to the stage so that you can follow the story.

We had an enjoyable evening at the Ramayana ballet at Prambanan after visiting the temple. The sound effects, lights, costumes, dance, performances were all top-notch. The only issue we faced was regarding the approach to the ballet venue - it appears close from the temple premises but is actually quite far and there are not enough sign-boards for reaching the venue from the temple. We ended up walking for about half-n-hour to reach the place. Suggest taking a car or taxi instead. Also carry mosquito repellent and food - there aren't too many food stalls around.

It was a beautifully clear day when I visited Prambanan, and I decided to see the Ramayana performance that evening in the open air theatre with the temple in the background. It was a beautiful pageant of flowing color and sound. I didn't have a program so just gave myself over to the story - it was easy enough to follow. It is a bit of a pantomime with easily recognized heroes and heroines, demons and villains. It is a two hour long performance with a brief intermission two thirds of the way through. You may be tempted to leave at the intermission, but that would be a mistake. If you want photos, don't do what I did and forget to bring a tripod!! I got a 2nd class ticket so sat in the peanut gallery. If you're big on photography, you might want to sit closer. VIP seats run the equivalent of about 25 dollars, but the 2nd class seats cost about $8. Although there are a lot of action scenes involving very stylized personal combat and all out war, this is not for kids or people with short attention spans - it moves at a stately pace. If you're easily distracted, it might be best for you to go back to your hotel and watch television.

A wonderful experience all round. The show was beautiful with English storylines played on screens to the side so you knew what was happening. Although, the storyline was pretty clear.

A must do.

A most interesting ballet performance of about 2 hours enacting the Ramayana epic. Arrows fly here and there, with one aimed at the audience - beware if you are in the VIP seats in the centre. Live music (gamelan, drums, strings) and sung accompaniment; spectacular costumes and makeup. Side-titles in English and Bahasa so that you can follow along as the dialogue is in Sanskrit.
