This museum brings consequences of the tragic volcanic eruption to life. It shows the impact on human life. Quite sad but educational for my children.

Most of us visit this museum during the Merapi Jeep Tour. Although there are many things that we can learn about the greatness of mother nature, it seems that very minimal attention has been given to maintain this museum. Not very sure weather we can still have this museum in the future.

Nevertheless, it was a good experience to visit this place.

First, I think you can only reach this museum as part of a Jeep tour of Mt. Merapi. However, make sure this is one of the stops on the tour--it's well worth it. It's less a museum than an exhibition of what remains of a village that was destroyed in the volcanic eruption of 2010. The intense heat instantly melted and burned everything, while the ash preserved it. (In addition about 350 people died, along with a lot of livestock.) Today what remains are eerie skeletons of cattle, and twisted furnishings--still recognizable from everyday life: the kitchen utensils, garden tools, bed frames, and even TVs, VCRs and computers. It's even more poignant because these aren't far-off items like at Pompeii, but the same brands and models of items that I used to own. It just really brings the tragedy home, and makes it all the more touching.

This place is next to Merapi volcan. We can see how lava destroyed this place.
But its just another way how indonesian people try to make money...
the way we go to this museum is soooo rugged.... (we were jumping in the JEEP... was not a good feeling.) and long. but when we left the place... the driver "found" a perfect asphalt way....

Visiting this small (almost) outdoor museum turned you to realize how big the impact of Mt Merapi Eruption in 2010. All stuff were melted. This museum is a remenbrance of that tragedy

Located on the remaining houses from Merapi eruption, this museum kept what were left after the eruption. You were brought to a moment when things happened within a blink of an eye as you witnessed everything burnt or melted or washed away.

As this was probably initiated by local people, the display was very simple and might change as visitors curiously tried to hold or touch the display.

Merapi last eruptions in 2010 brings lots of sadness for the people staying around the mountain. The visits will show you whats left and how they fully accepted the nature.
Be considerate and always remember people died and this disaster.

not much to learn about the actual catastrophe, only some dusty knick-knacks post eruption. spacious parking area, a couple of souvenir vendors, an iguana and a hawk to selfie with. the keris room gave me chill, assorted cigarettes purposely lined up there for an offering.
worth for a quick visit, it is free anyway.
