We opted for the medium trip for 450000 rupiah. They have a short version for 350000 rupiah, as well as the long trip for 550000 rupiah. The journey took around 1 1/2 hours and included the bunker, the museum as well as a water obstacle course. Unfortunately, it was a rainy and foggy day and we were not able to see the summit. The museum was quite a touching tribute, and was a little spooky in the late evening darkness. Our driver was very enthusiastic and drove the water course three times, each time a a higher speed. They do provide helmets and insurance as part of the package.

It was an informative and exciting experience. A well rounded tour that is a werid mix for history, excitement and extreme sadness for what happened there. I definitely recommend.

Despite of the bumpy and dusty ride around the volcano destroyed area, the driver/guide of jeep operation was very helpful and knowledgeable. An excellent experience gained on this tour for my family. Not to miss this action. This Community is worth it. Recommended Driver/Guide is Sybe.

Driving up To Merapi along the expected twisting roads and hillside villages. A decent and comfortable road until you come to merapi itself where the road would benefit from some repair. No problem at this point for a normal car, though bumpy. We climbed past most of the 4wd tour providers, past the luxury land cruisers up to jeep territory and as it happens into the first licensed jeep #1. There are now at least 900 licensed cars for this tour. Everyone has a WC by the way so no panic. We had a choice of 3 tours at 1, 2 or 3 hours. (350,450,550k) A 3 hour tour includes water yumping and the 2 hour tour includes a couple of new attractions for the selfie mad. We took the one hour tour and thankful we did. It sure is bumpy. Yes we were in a 70+year old jeep and not a fancy land cruiser but it is bumpy. We were provided with face masks and whilst it wasn't especially dusty the air is not crystal clear. Four stops on our one hour tour and you begin to appreciate the fragility of life and the magnificent way nature and humans return from such devastation. Our driver, Tree, was excellent too. A local of Merapi and informative, great driving and truly enthusiastic. He also takes incredible pics. And there's not any of the hanging around waiting for a gratuity just a genuine thank for visiting Merapi. Oh. And the buttock massage from the bumps. That's free!
