i visited all the islands in raja ampat except pulau wayag. i went there in june 2013. i stayed in pulau waisai. ferry takes you to waisai which has decent cheap hotels.yes i traveled independently and i paid US$10 per night for two people in waisai in an aircon hotel.

i rented a boat with a pilot for 6 days including all petrol and lunch.i paid US$500 and i visited all the islands and even those where no one goes. boat was mine so i could stop any where i felt like stopping. we usually left at 8 am and came back past sunset.

all other outfits are expensive and the mini resorts in all other islands are extremely over priced. dont stay in any other island. its not worth the price.only waisai has cheap hotels.

just to give you an idea, there is a speed boat which charges US$500 just to visit wayag. its far away. and it is not worth the price. i was told that a government run ferry service will start which will serve all island including wayag. check if it has started.

dont waste your money just to see one island. it is like koh phi phi in thailand.

dont believe that raja ampat are expensive to visit. they are not. if you have time, you could wait in waisai until there are more tourists and you can share the price of the speed boat. if you have time that is.

DONOT PAY ANYONE IN SORONG FOR A PASS.

that pass is only needed if you are visiting wayag. lonely planet is totally wrong about the pass. you dont need to show the pass to anyone and you also dont need to report to the police or any thing like that.

diving is availabe in waisai in 2 resorts so you dont have to do live aboard and pay hundreds of dollars. diving is exceptional and world best.

Wayag Island is one of incredible place i ever seen in Indonesia. Must go hiking to view a spectacular real picture of Raja Ampat, its 30 minutes trekking of 45 degrees slope, for sure you'll get tanning when you reach the top, its a worth experience indeed. Make sure you wear hiking foot wear and glove is recommended. Stay overnight at Concervation International (CI) as a base camp. You can just jump into a clear blue water where you can snorkle with fishes & 3 sharks that didn't give any attention with your presence around them, then a stunning sunset awaits you in the afternoon.
The next morning do islands hopping and take a beautiful unspoiled pictures, the water is so calm so you can see its mirroring the reefs. Beautiful!! Best month to visit Raja Ampat is on Sept - Dec

Pulau Wayag probably has one of the best views of mountains and beaches that exist around the world. The colors are amazing with blue and, turquoise water, white clouds, green vegetation/jungle and grey & black stones/mountains. We saw photos from other visitors before we left and it looked great, but seeing it in reality was even more amazing. It is a tough climb to reach the top, but it is definitely worth it. The boat ride from the inhabit islands of Raja Ampat is about 2-3 hours, thus you need a complete day for the tour. There is no specific fee for Pulau Wayag, but you need to have the Raja Ampat visitors pass.

Do you know that view you see on Google? It's real but it's not the one I went to. We got taken in a mid-long boat trip to amazing diving spots, including Melissa's Garden, and the beauty above the water in the Mini Wayag was the cherry on top! Just a short but steep hike and you get to see the postcard of Raja Ampat. Better than any photos you've seen before. Endless beauty all the way to the horizon and back!

Wayag Located on northern part of Raja Ampat, it is all day event because you need 6-8 hours to have return trip from Waisai with 2 engine speed boat. Before you go you need to bring your Raja Ampat visitor annual pass worth IDR 1.000.000,- for foreigner and IDR 250.000,- for Indonesian. It is recommended for you to report and ask for local guide to help you cruise between the Islands.
at Wayag you can diving, snorkeling, or hiking. if you choose to hike at Wayag there are two hills with breath taking view, first hill named Wayag perempuan and second hill named Wayag laki-laki. Wayag Laki-laki have more difficulties to hike than Wayag Perempuan. Do prepare suitable equipment such as hiking shoes, gloves, thick pant because you will hike a sharp coral stone hill, do not forget to bring enough drinking water, lunch, and extra clothes. Good time to travel is 6 am from Waisai and return home before 4 pm from Wayag.

While in Raja Ampat, do not miss the Wayag Islands. Probably, the most beautiful place I have ever been! All the cone-shaped islands you can see after climbing for almost 30 minutes. Some people find it hard, but for me it was quite easy. Just bring a pair of sneakers because the rocks are sharp and it is not possible to climb with flip flops...(locals do it with bare foot. It is unbelievable).

Visited this incredible Island on October 2014.
We stayed over night at Marine Protected base camp prior heading to Wayag hill on the next morning. We arrived at this camp around 3pm and spent the afternoon with snorkeling with 3 black fin sharks, that was a speechless moment, really enjoyed snorkeling in this spot, clear water and could find Nemos in a shallow water. A lot of to see and really refreshing.
Recommended to wear hiking foot wear, dryfit clothes, bring enough drinking water. 30 minutes trekking with 80 - 90 degrees slope. Trekking slowly and you'll get the spectacular view when you reached the top. Amazing and so beautiful. Don't even ask the under water life, just a big WOW I can say to describe the under water creatures.
Would love to explore Raja Ampat more in the future.

Came to this amazing pristine place via a live aboard boat Euphora. Took us to all the best dive & snorkelling sites. This climb was only about 30min up in for an average fit person but need to watch your feet. The view is stunning. Photos do not do the view justice. It's a hot climb so water bottle & wear your bathers/ swimmers so at descent you can plunge straight into the beautiful water below. Raja Amphat would easily be the best snorkelling & diving in the world. Recommend the Euphoria & the happy crew for an adventure of a life time. Kayaks & water skiing, a few of the free activities offered. Bonus cockatoo on board!

The view from the top is in fact what you see in the beautiful photos. It is surreal. But the hike up is pretty intense and STEEP. There was one guy (who was older likely in his late 50s or early 60s) that was ready to pass out. Make sure you are fit enough to do this.
