... but now we get only a 50/50 chance for a clean beach.
This beach is amazing long about 12 km , quiet and 5 years ago also clean. At the last 5 years the beach got more and more wasted, because of thai plastic items and bottles....

Mae Ram Pheung beach, about 12 km south of Rayong City, should be one of the prime beaches in Thailand. It has beautiful sand, a backdrop of tall casuarina pines and palm trees, and a wide selection of sites with deckchairs and shade umbrellas.

There are also many restaurants (some little more than shacks) serving deliciously fresh seafood, which you can eat and enjoy with a cool drink in your deckchair.

Unfortunately the beach is subject to garbage being washed ashore and efforts to clean up the beach are erratic and not effective.

Some time ago, mahouts used to walk their elephants along the beach and you could buy sugar cane from them to feed to the elephants. That has been banned since an elephant went berserk and killed a Thai tourist.

Long powder sand beach with lots of seafood resturants.
Highly suitable for children, beach well kept and tidy cleanded by the resturant owners
when I was there in "songkran" week. Lots of tourists but mostly Thai people from Bangkok
not so many westerners. Seems like this is a place for the thai day-trippers from bangkok.
Highly unusual to be on a beach with lots of people and beeing one of few non-thais.
Pricelevel in the resturants was a pleasant surprice, very reasonable seafood prices and I guess
its because its visited by mostly thais and not so many farangs.

Mae Ram Phueng Beach, which should be a jewel in the crown of Thailand's beaches, continues to be nothing more than a disgusting garbage dump.

Every day huge mounds of garbage and marine flotsam and jetsam wash up on the beach and little or no effort if made to stop ships dumping their garbage at sea, nor is their any regular and concerted effort to clean up the mess.

The result is best illustrated in the photographs that I took recently. They tell the real story.

We spent xmas and newyear on Mae Ramphueng beach total 14 days and I must say that things has improved from last visit. Beach area cleaned on daily basis by the resturant owners and also the guverment, more resturants and more choises for food and beverages. Small night time drinking spots has turned up but stil very un-crowded
This is probably the best "close to Bangkok" beach available if you dont take the ferry
to Koh Samet. But remember accomondation and food is double prize on the island.

Long beach with many small seafood places. Nice and clean and it seems the local owners of
resturants keep after the beach. We were there mid week in october and very few people
One of the best mainland thailand beaches I have visited. We were there 2 days before travel
further to Koh Samet and we regret we didnt book more days because this beach was more
relaxing and half price for food and drinks compared to Samet. Strong recomendation.

I live not far from Mae Ram Phueng Beach and every morning at dawn I do a six kilometer walk up and down it with my two dogs.

I have reviewed this beach in the past, normally to point out how much rubbish accumulates on it. But lately the authorities seem to have been more diligent in cleaning it up.

For the past few weeks, however, there has been another problem.

A brownish-green scum is being washed ashore. When there is an ebb tide the scum lies on the beach, turning a dark brown as it dries.

I do not know what it is, but it has a chemical smell and is definitely not a natural oceanic bloom.

I would strongly recommend that you do not swim here until this problem is identified and cleared up.

Lovely beach although it gets really crowded on public holidays.
Offers banana boat rides, kayaking (with a couple of small islands close to shore,
Many beach front restaurants with service to where you are sitting on the beach.
