About
Once a film set of the 1980 musical production, Popeye Village is now a fun-filled tourist attraction. Here, you can have meet and greets with Popeye and the gang, try being a movie star for a day, hit the mini golf course, explore the elaborate interiors of set houses, take a whirl on a water trampoline, and check out the Popeye Comic Museum. Don’t miss out on the winery, where you can enjoy home-made wine while overlooking the beautiful Anchor Bay. If the weather is good, take a boat ride around Anchor Bay—from which you can take some of the best pictures of Popeye Village. – Tripadvisor

- viv_s_2004638 contributionsReally fun daytrip! Water is lovely!Really fun daytrip from Valleta! My husband and I had a delightful day lounging by (and swimming in) the sea at the Popeye Village. The water is incredibly warm and sparkly blue-green, plus there’s a fun floatie gym (kind of like a water obstacle course) to play on. The snacks are also very reasonably priced. Great day out! Highly recommend!Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 14, 2023
- Melaney68Chesapeake Beach, Maryland11,395 contributionsA bit too touristy for meIf you decide you want to use their waterfront area to enjoy the beach this might be for you. If you want to take some cool pics with the sets you’ll be happy. If you loved the Popeye movie or Robin Williams this is for you. The day we visited it was too windy for the water sports so they discounted our tickets. That was appreciated immensely. The food choices were typical of an amusement park. The hamburger was decent. The staff did lead a fun skit that included the crowd. The sets seemed run down and staffing seemed sparse to me. It felt as though the glory days were long gone.Visited August 2023Traveled on businessWritten October 15, 2023
- Scottmac907 contributionsGreat day outWe had a fantastic day out at pop eyes last week, weather was perfect for our visit. The village is kept really well, the actors and actresses were lively and really good with our kids. The inflatable course was a good laugh as the water was quite choppy so made it interesting. The swimming pools were good fun for our kids and the girl who was on life guard duty was really friendly. All in we had a great day and thought it was good value for moneyVisited October 2023Traveled with familyWritten October 21, 2023

- Varun BAltrincham, United Kingdom49 contributionsAmazing day @PopeyePopeye & fun in the Anchor bay but don't miss the activities on the top portion near the exit (to your left). Accessible by bus, car, taxi and walking (although I don't recommend walking). Excellent filming experience (if you arrive early morning or late afternoon). Too much emphasis on the Movie but good fun around. Fabulous fun water activities in the Anchor bay (sea side) for the kids and family. People miss out or have too little time left when they realise that there are more activities on the top near the exit point. 2 pools and water play area plus mini golf and others. Overall a beautiful experience of Popeye the sailor.Visited October 2023Traveled with familyWritten October 28, 2023

- Ellen HHexham, United Kingdom22 contributionsA strange but lovely little placeWe visited the Popeye Village on a hot day at the end of October. It's a strange little place, while my husband and I (in our 30s) are familiar with Popeye our little girls (under 10) do not relate to the character so didn't quite get it. It's still an interesting village, the staff were all fab, lots were dressed up for Halloween and did trick or treat and games in each building which the kids loved. The bay in gorgeous! Absolutely stunning, we really wanted to swim and use the inflatable course but the bay was full of jelly fish, I've never seen so many. The life guard didn't seem too fussed despite his purple flag he had up but I didn't want to risk it. My photos really don't convert just how many jellyfish there were, it was pretty amazing to watch them. So instead we spent a couple of hours at the swimming pool which we loved, the mini golf and children's ninja course was also great and you get 30mins in a soft play in the cafe which is a nice way to finish the trip. Think we were there about 6 hours in totalVisited October 2023Traveled with familyWritten November 4, 2023

- Chris P2 contributionsA must when in Malta! Great day outGreat day out for all to experience the film set, fun activities to keep everyone entertained! Popeye, olive and Bluto today were all amazing giving the public opportunities to be a part of the film. Extra credit to popeye, I was watching all along and he’s energy was infectious. Only disappointment in giving it 4/5 was the gift shop, we were expecting more products like posters, comic books or maybe books on history. Needs less clothing and more variety of the products you see in the display cabinets. I feel an opportunity missed.Visited December 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 11, 2023

Staying in Qawra, we were going to catch two buses to get to the village, but another couple in the hotel asked if we wouldn’t mind sharing a taxi, so I downloaded the Bolt app and it cost €30 return – much easier than waiting for the hourly bus at Mellieha. Both drivers were super friendly, and drove properly as I warned them if they didn’t, I wouldn’t give them five stars!
We really didn’t know what to expect for our €9 each (senior price, €11 for adults during the winter months) – that included popcorn, a free photo and free postcard. We arrived just before 11.00 and were just having a quick look round when they asked for guests to take part in the movie. So glad we did – it was great fun – and I ended up being Popeye! After watching our performance in the cinema, we very much enjoyed reliving our adventures by downloading the video (which cost an additional €5). We thought it was all good value for money.
Neither of us had actually seen the film – to be more than honest, it’s not really our cup of tea, but we thoroughly enjoyed the day – the film set is great to walk round – and there are lots of activities, including a crazy golf course - and for no real reason, it even includes a very comprehensive Christmas Wonderland to walk through! The games area includes everything from noughts and crosses to toss the loo rolls – there seems to be something to do or see around every corner.
We’re really not sure how anyone could fail to enjoy this, but it is geared to the young – and young at heart, however it might be challenging for anyone with mobility issues – there are steep hills and steps all over the place.
We were there a good few hours – and enjoyed a lovely bowl of fish soup for lunch overlooking the bay.

This little movie set turned tourist attraction is well worth a visit just to be silly. You have to laugh at yourself for going. Its for children in the 80's and nobody else. We knew this ahead of time (4 adults) and we had fun joking about how sad the place is (the actors looked like they wanted to go home and cry!) It's much smaller than we expected though and because of that, the high cost of entry is why I gave it a poor rating. Had it been even half the price, it may not be worth it even for children. If you go here, be prepared to make your own fun!

Dear Canadianslacker,
Thank you for taking time to write your review. We are very sorry to hear that we did not meet your expectations.
With regards to the price we have a full program which includes:
- Starting the day by meeting the full cast: Popeye, Olive oil, Captain Bluto and their friends and enjoy their numerous animation shows carried out continuously all along the village.
- Roaming around the whole village and appreciate the 40-year-old structures still in their original glory.
- Visiting some of the houses on set (Popeye’s house, the school, the firehouse, the dentist shop and the bakery)
- Getting to know more about the movie and the building of the film- set in the very detailed 15-minute documentary showing continuously in the cinema.
- Making your way to Popeye’s comic museum – to see all the memorabilia that has been collected throughout the years.
- Being part of a cast and become movie stars for one day by staring in an actual movie. (From Plotting the scenes, to rehearsals, to costume-picking and the actual filming, you and your friends will have a blast and taste the life of your Hollywood idols)
- Experiencing the premiere of your very own movie at the cinema.
- Silver smith Demonstrations – seeing how traditional Maltese silver filigree is created. This authentic jewellery-making and a part of Maltese culture that has been handed down from one generation to the next. Purchasing of this work-of-art is available.
- Participating in a golfing tournament and try to take home the victory of a 9-hole mini golf session.
Once again, we are very sorry your visit was not satisfactory, but we thank you for taking the time to write your review.
Thank you.
Best regards,

We watched the Popeye film before our Malta holiday ,so we were familiar with this unusual setting.
All the unique buildings housed memorabilia and interesting information about the film.
The best feature of our day out was the staff. The were all in character and provided entertainment and interacted with the guests all day.
The guests were invited to join in. So, we dressed up in character and did a re-enactment of part of the story with Bluto filming it . This was then shown in the cinema.
This attraction is good value for money and includes a free postcard , popcorn , and a family photo.
This was our favourite day of the holiday.

Didnt know whether to come here but glad we did.
Although expensive to enter at €18 an adult and €12.50 a child its a fun filled attraction with plenty to keep both adults and kids entertained.
Small swimming pools with slides for the youngsters at the top of the park with beds around.
The sea was rough on the day we attended but had fun doing the inflatable obstacle challenge.
Food was surprisingly very nice and really good service too. Better than a few very expensive restaurants we ate in elsewhere!
We stayed for a very enjoyable 4 or so hours.
You cant really walk here as the road has no pavements and is quite busy with vehicles.
The 101 bus stops here hourly and a taxi to Mellieha cost us €8 for a party of 6.

The location was open during the COVID19 pandemic time in December 2020. The bus 101 from the coastal road goes to the village every one hour and the ride was fast.
The shows and short movies in the village were available yet the big restaurant inside was closed. 11€ for an adult entry with a free postcard and a popcorn till 5pm closure. No one was swimming in December but there were a lot of things to take photos inside. The Christmas Town attraction inside was suited for the Christmas time visit and there was a Santa Clause at the saw mill area with stuffs to take the phots with him.
The entry requires the submission of first name, family name, nationality, phone number, address, number of people together for the data collection. I encountered such in the Napale restaurant in Is-Suq in Valletta when I dined there. So, the Popeye Village was the second location I submitted my information.

Unfortunately we had really bad weather when we were there, but it was still a great adventure. The artists did their best to make a funny tour for only 4 tourists visiting that moment. Also the scenery is real and very authentic. For kids this is a dream to come true and for 10 Euros entrance it is definitely worth a trip. You also get popcorn and to watch a free short movie about the making off of popeye. If we had good weather we would be able to swim in the nice panorama pool as well.

Nice place, but for couple it was waste of money. It should be great and acceptable price for families with children, which can spend their whole day, by the sea and a lot of other attraction for children including small theater performance.
Would be great, that will be splitted visitor's area for quick visit for half price and 18€ for whole day. Our visit takes 45 minutes and we were sitting by the see long time.

I believe that a large part of the visitors come to the Popeye Village because it is considered a famous tourist attraction in Malta, but they limit themselves to taking pictures near the houses and spending the day on the private beach, because there are very good conditions. I spent a whole day with the family, visited all the houses, played mini-golf, traditional games, visited the existing exhibitions and saw two of the resident artists' presentations (there should be about ten people watching, even though the park was full), with who we could talk because they are very friendly and professional, intervening with the public several times throughout the day. The younger ones don't know Popeye and the adults didn't show much interest. I noticed that the staff were concerned about the social distance between beds and even came to intervene due to complaints from those they did not respect, but they gave great freedom and I thought that in the middle of the afternoon there were too many people for the current pandemic conditions. We really enjoyed the visit and would return for the friendliness of the space and the staff, although I think they could work towards making them more attractive

We visited this sight in late March, the view from the top of the cliff down on to the set is stunning and very photogenic. It costs 12 euros at present, the site is awesome with plenty of quirks and fun and games to be held. They have actors playing Olive Oil, Bluto and of course Popeye. Bluto and Olive were great characters and happily chatted with visitors and posed for photographs. However when my wife spoke with Popeye and asked for a photo, he quite abruptly said "cant now busy" which ruined her visit. There is a mini golf course, and plenty of wooden games to play, and a lovely way to spend a couple of hours. In our opinion Olive is the star of the show, she was friendly and pleasant at all times, and when we were photographing her house , she came running out to offer her services as a model. She really makes the whole experience worthwhile.

I would say this place is good for kids ..the village set is good ,as in the way it was built on a hill, but most of the buildings are closed and you can only see through the window..they is a room where they have some memorabilia and a video playing which is not bad.
You go on a little boat ride where some scenes were filmed, but the driver just quickly zipped up there and back no time for a photo..everything was rushed..other than a cave it was nothing special..
Entry fee includes trampoline and water slides but if u don't want them ,,just too bad
They have some little plays with some people dressed as the characters but really no one was interested when we were there and so only a short one was performed, but they are happy to pose for a photo with you ...
If you are taking the bus, go with the one that takes you directly to the popeye village, there are others but you have a fair walk to get there...
All in all it is a good place if the weather is fine and you have kids with you otherwise just give it a miss you are not missing much.............
