The information centre was extremely busy when we went in and it took some time to be seen. The girl was helpful and gave us all the information we needed and provided us with a couple of walks to do in the vicinity. There was stacks of information and you could book travel tickets there. Good free WiFi as always in Norwegian Tourist Offices.

The office staff are very co-operative. Due to avalaunche, our Flam rail journey was cancelled and we were quite worried how to reach Oslo, but the staff were quite helpful and a bus to Oslo was immediately arranged.

In addition, upon our return back home we got a mail of refund of part of our rail ticket due to the cancellation.

They just won our loyalty for ever.

Flam is a beautiful little town in a most picturesque setting so people want to come here whether by road or cruise ship. Those who come by cruise ship and who don't want to be part of a ship's tour with the lack of freedom to wander can just come here to find brochures or make bookings on all the excursion delights this town offers. I wouldn't ask for hotel or restaurant recommendations, fearing bias, and that's what TripAdvisor is for anyway.

Having taken a ship tour that included returning to Flam on the Flamsbana train (separate review) it was late in the afternoon and we didn't need any more tours so just took a quick look in and can't comment on the service but in Norway that's always going to be helpful and English speaking is assured. The sun was shining so we didn't want to spend time in the shops within.

If we have a future visit to Flam (probably by ship again) we'd like to spend more time in the town by the cruise port if it is sunny and check out the short tour offerings. Flam is a tiny town and this office is huge by everyday travel standards. With the cruise ships alone there can be 5,000 or so Flam visitors in one day so they need a big professional operation to handle that. There's a lot to see and do and the Norwegians are serious about supporting their travel industry.

Situated right by the train station.

The TI is right off the Flam railway station, and less than 5 minute walk from the cruise ship pier. They staff was very helpful with arranging tours and rail travel. They had many brochures and maps that were free. They also have free, clean restrooms to take advantage of.

Would give 0 stars if possible. We purchased 2 roundtrip tickets from Aurland to the Stegastein viewpoint. The bus was supposed to pick us up at the Aurland bus stop at 5:15. We waited a whole hour from 5 to 6 and not a single bus stopped in front us.

After calling the Flam tourism customer service number they contacted the bus driver who said he did not see us after waiting at the bus stop and left without us. Customer service refused to refund us for the over $70 we spent on these tickets. They say they believe the bus driver's word over ours. Meanwhile, we confirmed with our hotel receptionist that we were waiting in the exact right location for the bus. So this bus driver was clearly lying.

I am dumbstruck that they would outright refuse to refund our tickets. I have never received such terrible customer service from a travel company in my years of traveling.

Pro tip: If you have a group of 3 or more people you can save money by calling a taxi from Aurland to the Stegastein viewpoint instead of wasting your time on this scam of a service.

Just like most people, the first thing we did when we came to Flam was go to their visitor centre. Since we were staying a night at Aurland (about 10 kms from Flam) we had enough time to look around. Also, we needed to know how to get to Aurland. There is only one tourist information counter, the rest of the counters are ticket booking ones. So when a train/ cruise comes, the rush is imaginable. There was a girl at the counter who was very curt and tried to brush us off with some half information. When we asked her what can we do with our time in Flam, we got nothing out of her. I don't even remember what she said. Later we asked her how to get to our hotel in Aurland and she gave us information of the public bus, shuttle and local taxi service. Apparently the public bus had left so we had 2 options, shuttle and taxi. She gave us a taxi service number. There was no mention of the nearby tourist things - like try out the food stalls, or go for a ride in the toy train or enjoy the speed boat ride around the fjords...NOTHING!!!

After figuring all this by ourselves, we had to go back to the tourist centre again to get ourselves a map. This time there was a boy at the counter. So we checked with him the best way to reach Aurland. He too gave us the same information. We called the taxi service and found out that they charge 360 NOK for the 10 min drive, which is ridiculously expensive. So we went and bought shuttle tickets (65 Nok each).

When we were waiting for the shuttle, there were a couple of locals waiting and they told us that there is public bus plying between Flam and Aurland and the ticket costs 41 Nok pp.... I wonder why the tourist centre didnt give us that info. 360 Nok is almost 9 times the price of that bus, and we saw the bus, it is very comfortable.

This is the first time we came across such an unfriendly and unhelpful tourist centre which is not there to give correct information about the place but is more interested in making money for these private operators. Such a shame, as the overall place is beautiful and definitely worth a visit. Hope they better their services quickly.

Worst expierence evere! After wait 2h for the tour wich I book and pay I been told that our bus had a licking oil ! Im sorry but in the desk I was told im going in a a van!
That van left with 6 guest behind because they overbook!!
After I complain I ask to talk with the manegwr it was denied I ask the complain book I been told is not avaible!! Really in europe? All stablishment must have a complain book and it can be denied to a guest! In the end no solutions very dissapointed.
Worst expierence I ever had after visiting more than 30 countrys.
Better rent a car and do it yourself.

My guidebook had forewarned that the Flam tourist information upon arrival will only give information about their fjord cruise/sightseeing options while disputing that there are any other options. I was astonished to find this true. When we arrived after a very long day of travel from Oslo, only to learn their 3pm boat had broken down and "no others were available" I'd say 95% of tourists who had traveled from all over the entire world to see the fjords ended up following the crowds and getting in long queues for bus tickets. Shame, shame. My Rick Steves guidebook stated there is a car ferry option, and when I asked the "tourist information" center they LIED and said there was no such option - and that we must take their option which would have left us stranded in another small town after the bus to Stalheim had already passed and we had pre-paid our hotel room there. She was very rude. Mere minutes after buying the "ONLY" option we stepped back outside and watched a CAR FERRY arriving at the docks. Only a few backpackers were on board. The very kind and gracious crew sold us tickets, so while I waited to board my husband went back to confront the dishonest staff. They gave us a refund and claimed "to not know about the car ferry". If you've seen the tiny village of Flam you'd know there is no way they don't know about it.

The tourist office is an efficiently run place with helpful staffers. They were able to make changes to our rail bookings etc very quickly when there was a road block and we could not complete the trip because of a landslide, as planned.
