Amazing museum and free to visit
Aug 2020 • Couples
This mini museum is amazing, spend good time to read and explore the text boards and the photographs on them, you will learn so much about the railway building and the people behind all the hard work. So visionary and I guess still same, because you can truly be impressed in 🇳🇴

Great to visit before you ride on the rails

Flåmsbana museum is great to visit before you ride the Flåm Railway, and for everyone that has an interest in railways. It´s free entrance to the museum!

Small, interesting and free

Free museum showing the history of the Flåm Railway and not incidentally some of the history of the rail line between Oslo and Bergen.

We found it quite interesting. There is a historical locomotive on display, a miniature of historic Flåm, and various items, photographs and stories of people that lived in, worked at the rail-project or visited Flåm at the time.

And a souvenir shop that is also selling H0 scale locomotives and passenger carriages - I was tempted to buy a whole train of them but we have no space for model railways in our house.

Enjoyed a short visit to museum. Some interesting items on display. The adjoining store had some beautiful, quality items for sale. Purchased some lovely gifts.

Interesting & FREE

A great museum to get an overall feel for the overall history of the local area. It's not really big, so doesn't take a lot of time. It might be free, but we think definitely deserves a donation on the way out.

This museum is free and it's very interesting. It shows why and how the railroad was built. You should visit it if you are in town.

Amazing little railroad steeped in history, this museum is fun and easy to visit, and free! Plan to spend about 45-60 minutes visiting this little gem.

I really enjoyed all the exhibits in this museum, which is free to go in. I thought the information on how the railway was built was most interesting.

Free museum

Worth having a look if you are in Flam and have some spare time or want to know more about the railway. It is quite a small museum at the back of the gift shop, but still has some interesting information on the making of the railway and a few exhibit pieces. Unfortunately the model trains were out of action when we arrived, so we had to just look at the static displays.

Interesting museum
Jan 2020
This museum tells the story of how the Flåm Railway (Flåmsbana) was built and why it was nicknamed the 20 line. Lots of exhibits, displays and information boards (most are in English for non-Norwegian speakers), plus some old locomotives and rolling stock too.
If you've arrived by, will depart on, or taken a pleasure trip on the Flåmsbana it is an essential visit while you're in Flåm. Even better - it's free, although donations are suggested.
