Varois, we had never made this visit and we did not regret it. The panorama seen from above is magnificent, how beautiful it is here! The visit is interesting and it demystifies the place. A little long, 2h30, our guide was very talkative with some superfluous comments.
Be careful, no toilets inside and little opportunity to sit down. Visit not suitable for young children.

We tried to visit the Fort de Bregancon in September 2014. Only on our arrival at the fort did we find we needed to have bought tickets in advance. To complicate things further these tickets were not available from the fort, but need to be bought from the tourist office at Bormes les Mimosas over 10km away. We travelled back in land to the tourist office at Bormes les Mimosas. Unfortunately on arrival the tourist office was closed for lunch (well it is France). When the office re-open mid-afternoon we was told that the attraction was very popular and the tickets for that day had sold out by mid morning. We spent a pleasant afternoon in Bormes les Mimosas, however never did get to see the fort. I hope sharing our experience saves you the frustration we had.

I was curious to see this place having seen it became possible to visit around a year ago. The setting surprised me, it is more picturesque than I expected. Inside was a bit disappointing as you can't help thinking they could have done a much better job with the furnishings and décor. The views from the fort are outstanding and the garden very pleasant. All the same a privilege to be able to see what for so many years has been a very private place and the history of it all was fascinating. The group sizes are reasonable and the length of visit about right, it helps if you understand French well as our tour was all in the local lingo. You need to book either at the tourist office in Bormes les Mimosas or online. You have to wait for your designated visit at the gate then you are taken to the fort in a small electric bus, nice beach and coastal walk to kill time if your early and that's where you get the best photographs of the peninsula fort.

This is one of the residence of the French President that has been opened to public since 2014 only. The guided visit is a bit long (2 hours) but worth it especially for the unique view you have from the gardens of the fort.

In order to visit the fort, one needs to go first to rhe office of tourism in the bormes les mimossas city center. On top one needs to pay in addition for the parking around the fort, 5 euro per car

Fort Brégançon; Bormes Les Mimosas
The official retreat of the French President.
The Presidents of the Fifth Republic of France have frequently stayed at Brègançon Fort for a weekend break or for their summer holidays.
It has been State property since the French Revolution and in 1968 General de Gaulle made it an "official residence of the President of the Republic" the island and fort were listed as historic monuments in the same year. It has been occupied since 128 B.C. and is now open to the public except when the President is in residence.
The fort stands 35 meters above sea level and dominates the shipping lanes to Hyéres and Toulon, not all of it is open to the public but you can see the President's office and other rooms of importance. It is worth visiting for the view alone. The visit takes approximately 2 hours.
Tickets can be obtained for 10€ per person, online or from the Office de Tourisme, 1, place Gambetta 83230 Bormes Les Mimosas, France. www.bormeslesmimosas.com
Parking is at the beach, Plage de Cabasson and costs 5€ on production of the entry ticket, normal charge at this beach is 8€. A small bus takes you out over the causeway to the Fort and a Guide provides a commentary in French although you can ask questions in English and an English leaflet is provided. At the end of the tour you will have a short time to explore the grounds and gift shop.

We were in winter, very lovely walk through St. Tropez and then up the stairs. Very well kept fortress and things to see inside and a very lovely view from up there. I definitely recommend visiting it, but maybe in summer it is quite hot climbing all those stairs, we were in St. Tropez in summer but didn't have power to go up under the scorching sun. There is a parking place nearby, so if u come by car u go directly there first, not down to St.Tropez parking place.

One can only visit as part of a guided tour, and this must be booked either from the Tourist Office in Bormes-les-Mimosas or via the internet. There are simple guides in various languages included in the entry price, but the guided tour is in French.
The interior is surprisingly simple compared with the chateaux further north, but comfortable nevertheless. There is a bus from the car park and the overall time for the tour, including the obligatory stop in the Fort's shop, was 2 hours.

Open t the public for the summer. One needs to go to the local Tourist office in Bormes to get tickets. There is a bus from the main gate with reduced parking at Carbasson beach. The tourist guide was excellent. We were able to go into the apartments and see the president's summer residence. It's a wonderful place and worth a visit, even if one doesn't understand all the information. It costs 10 Euro and lasts 2 hours. Worth visiting the cafe at the beach before or afterwards.

Whilst the building was very interesting with some spectacular views I would have preferred more about the over 2,000 year history associated with the site than looking at a series of photos of how each room looked during the timer of different recent Presidents.

Bonjour
