Great Cycle Rides
Sep 2019
A really nice series of easy to ride old railway tracks in the picturesque Ardennes. These take you through the historic villages such as Stavelot and Francorchamps and of course right above the amazing Spa Grand Prix Circuit. Well worth taking your bike for an explore along these old routes. Spa town is great, do visit the 'thermes' at the top of the hill in Spa, a great way to relax.

Vennbahn - Cycling delight through nature
Jul 2019
The ‘Réseau (network) Autonome (autonomous) des Voies Lentes (slow paths)’ (RAVeL) is a relatively flat (max 2%; what a relief in such a hilly area) and safe network of bike paths through nature. Towing paths and old railways were used to make >1400 km of these connected routes, crossing a big part of Wallonia. You are really cycling through nature, while being able to go off the RAVel or stop wherever you want. The Vennbahn consists of the RAVel lines 47 and 48, going from Aachen to Troisvierges passing through St-Vith.

Ravel a little known gem
Jun 2018 • Solo
This is a great way to get from the train station is Trois Ponts to the racetrack at Francorchamps. Really a nice bike ride with a very slight incline going to Francorchamps and almost ne pedal required returning from the track to the train station at Trois Ponts. The ravel is shaded in most areas and just a really nice scenic area.

Beautiful!
Jun 2018
I was really amazed not only by the beauty of the area but also by the courage and the amount of dedication and determination of those who chose to climb the Ravel on bicycle. That's quite a climb and not for the faint hearted like myself I did it with the car!!

Wonderful escape from the congested motor racing

Not knowing this area we were so delighted to find this magnificent disused railway line now paved for cyclists and walkers, we walked along the ridge of high ground very easily with little variation in height, much fun

Brilliant

I really enjoyed cycling from Spa to Stavelot along the pre-Ravel. Not to difficult, suitable for all types of cyclists and cycles and along the most beautiful landscape.

not a hike, more like a stroll...
Aug 2016 • Family
We walked from near Lake Warfaaz downhill to Spa.
No hikingboots needed, this is a semi-hard path and not a trail.
No other walkers, very quiet, green but no wild nature. Bicycles and stroller accessible.

traffic-free cycling

A great way to get around on a bicycle - no traffic! Part tarmac part loose surface and a long tunnel, you can go on to Malmedy then all the way to Germany!

RAVeL was constructed over an old train line and offer an excellent trail with magnificent views, including the race cisrcuit of Spa-Francorchamps.
If you like a bike, rent one and go! It is about 15 km.

Trois Ponts to Francorchamps
Jun 2013 • Solo
I spend a bit of time each June in Vielsalm Belgium and each day I bike from Vielsalm to the race circuit at Francorchamps. A few years ago I discovered the old railway path that has been converted to a bike path. From Trois Ponts to Francorchamps is about 15 miles maybe a bit further. The bike path is paved almost all the way and shaded with trees. This is a very unique way to get into the racetrack without having to bother with a car or catching the bus.
