You'd never know driving through Knokke-Heist today that the area was once (and not too long ago) an area where city children, especially orphans and the underprivileged were taken during the summer to enjoy fresh air and get physical exercise. You'll learn all about it at this little jewel of a museum, as well as the agricultural, industrial (mostly fishing) and natural history of the area in two buildings of superb exhibits. It's extremely child-friendly (with games, puzzles and items to play with), but adults will find it just as interesting and enjoyable.

If you like to know how locals (fishermen) lived in Heist, it is a must to visit this museum. Monday's they are closed.
What a nice view in history you will find there. Video room aswell.
you can spend a few hours inside on a rainy day 700 from the beach side.
I can recommend this plays to everybody who is intrested in the history of the East Coast of Belgium.

This is a small museum largely devoted to the fishing industry in this area. I always enjoy a museum that explores the history and culture of the place I'm visiting. There are photos of the harvesting of the tiny grey shrimp, for which the area is famous, by fishermen using horses dragging rakes and nets in the shallow sea water. And early photos and objects reflecting the annual blessing of the fishing fleet which is still practiced today.

Decided to take the Kusttram to Knokke and stopped in Heist to visit the Sincfala museum. Nice exhibits from one class room school, overview of what fishermen had to face on a daily basis, the importance of the Zwin and the development into one of the seaside resorts we know now. A five minute walk from the Heldenplein stop. Worth a visit.
