We arranged for a tour through the castellidirpinia.com website. We met the person giving the tour at the main Cafe in the village and it turned out he was the town's vice mayor. He didn't speak English and my Italian is limited, but he had arranged for a local resident who spoke excellent English to join us on the tour. We walked up the narrow streets to the castle over looking the village and had a very personal tour of the castle. We were the only ones there and we went room to room with Antonio explaining the history while Anastasia translated. There are many exhibits and little videos along the way, even a virtual reality headset tour through the town on a donkey. It was all very informal, interesting and very enjoyable. After several hours it was time for everyone to join their families for Sunday dinner so we finished up with some group photos from the castle which provides tremendous views of the village and countryside below. The most incredible part of this tour was that neither Antonio or Anastasia wanted any payment for their services, even on a Sunday. They did it out of a genuine love for their castle and village. This town is very special and so are the people in it. The history of the castle and the region is very rich and stretches back in time through many centuries. Don't miss visiting this castle and town if you find yourself in Campania.
