- Emily OMullingar, Ireland1,192 contributionsBlue flag beach, small but family friendlyThis blue flag beach overlooked by the lighthouse was popular with families and swimmers 🏊when my husband, toddler, baby and I checked it out. There is a walkway down to the beach but it's not really a beach for walking on (too small) or pushing a buggy on (sand too soft). There is a small car park and toilets and taps for rinsing off sand. It felt very safe and had a lovely feel to it. I'd recommend if you are east on the Inishowen peninsula, in Moville, Greencastle or Culdaff but then you have lots of options on this peninsula: Culdaff, Kinnagoe Bay, Pollan Strand, Five Fingers Strand, Buncrana Beach, Lisfannon & Lenan Strand to name a few. It depends what you want from your beach experience but once was enough for us on this trip.Visited August 2021Traveled with familyWritten August 5, 2021
- Itinerant2014Glasgow, United Kingdom180 contributionsInishowen LighthouseThis is a lovely spot overlooking Lough Foyle, the end of the road really as you can go no further. It's very quiet and peaceful. A reviewer said disapprovingly it was Stroove Lighthouse, not Shroove Lighthouse. It is neither. It is Inishowen Lighthouse.Visited November 2019Written October 21, 2020
- SuJ30 contributionsLovely sheltered beachLovely sheltered beach with a car park close to it. The beach is not overly big but it wasn’t busy (it was raining!) Ideal for younger children wanting sandcastles and paddling fun. The lighthouse is part of the backdrop but you can’t get up close so it’s definitely not worth visiting just for the lighthouse, but if you want a beach this is great.Visited August 2021Traveled with familyWritten August 20, 2021

This is a privately owned property and access cannot be gained even to the outside of the building. Signage is present to remind visitors that they arent welcome. This isnt an attraction... merely a landmark!!!

Officially Inishowen Lighthouse, it has an unusual silhouette and is the last remaining of the pair built in pre-Famine times to help trans-Atlantic liners, Navy ships and local fishing boats navigate in and out of the Foyle. At the end of WWII German U-boats would have passed the lighthouse on the way to surrender at Derry. Seek out the museum in Greencastle if interested.
There are two beaches, one on each side of this immaculate lighthouse. Before fog signals vanished from lighthouses, on a foggy day the electronic fog detector would have switched on the fog signal making the area reverberate and your beach walk rather noisy. Ruston and Hornsby compressors would roar into life, building up the air pressure before releasing it in a series of extremely loud grunts to warn the mariner.
Now it's peaceful and restful, a place to enjoy the Atlantic breezes and gaze over at the Derry shore, and watch the occasional ship plough through the swell.

Shroove Lighthouse is situated right beside Shroove Beach, this beach is great for everyone and recently a boardwalk has been fitted so it safer walking to the beach. The area is very preserved and in great condition. This is a great walk and I do it quite often even though I am not from the area myself.

Donegal has many beautiful beaches, and Stroove is certainly one of them. It’s a superb beach for all the family, safe and excellent for exploring too. It has clean portable toilets in the summer, plus a life guard too. However, there are no shops at the beach, so you need to come prepared.

Plenty of parking although the access roads are a little narrow. A nice beach access with clear views across the Lough to Magillian point just to the south.
The lighthouse is on Shrove beach just where Lough Foyle meets the Atlantic.
You can just mentally visualise the migrant boats taking passengers to America passing this point.

Shrove is one of my favorite places to visit and a walk on the White Bay is a must, this is a forgotten part of the world and well worth exploring

A lovely small, secluded quiet beach under the lighthouse. two beaches really 1 is a short walk from carpark...the other has a single wooden path from the car park.

Shrove beach is a stunning cove with an on duty life guard. Its very safe and very clean and over looked by its famous lighthouse. This is a stunning beach sheltered by cliffs and rocks. Well worth a visit. My kids love it.
