Lovely old church well worth entrance if only to help with upkeep. Beautiful choir stalls and organ and altar.

Situated by the Balcon de Arcos it's an impressive building outside but worth a look inside too. You can but a ticket at the door, 2 euros, entry from 10am-1pm 4pm-7pm in the week and 10am -2pm on Saturday

Beautifully and lovingly built, beautifully maintained. You expect to see something like this in the big cities, but having it in this tiny town was a treat.

This magnificent cathedral was built in the 15th-16th century and stands proudly in the main square opposite the Parador hotel. It doesn't open till 10.30am and costs 2 euros, but worth every cent. It is not large like the cathedrals of Cadiz or Cordoba, for example, but the fittings and chapels are of a very high quality. It is still very much a working church. Almost alone worth the visit to the town...

Its onyl 2 Euros entrance and its worth visiting to see the amazing altars which are so densely decorated that your eye can hardly rest anywhere. You can also see the two processional platforms that are used during Semana Santa - the church is powerful but will appeal more to art students and historians

Great to visit inside for a couple of euros and makes a good local land mark. Rich colours abound in the plasterwork and ornate gilded altars, and central organ, set off by the towering, ancient pillars.
Opposite the plaza it sits next to is a convenient mirador to view the dizzying depths of the gorge's cliff face and lake beyond.
The up market Parador is also set on one side of this plaza and birds of prey and a lovely , tame meerkat are sometimes displayed by this mirador location. Music from practicing students spills out of official building on the other side of the plaza.

If you've done several Baroque churches in Spain, you may think you don't need to do one more. However, I found this one charming, accessible and well worth the time. There were only four people in it when we went through. If is incredibly clean and well-signed. Pay particular attention to the mummified saint--you can even see the knee bones through the cloth webbing. There is a "nook" left over from Moorish times. If you lean over the railing and lift up one of the misericords (monk's seat) you can see the wonderful carving under it. The caretaker lives below the bell tower--his family "runs" the basilica. We were told the squared off tower was because they simply ran short of funds. This basilica is right off the main square in the old city. Pay attention to the notes of others--this is not a town to drive in with your rental car. The streets are incredibly narrow. We had two days here with our group and they loved this small town.

Really atmospheric building. Although the square outside was busy we were the only people inside the Basilica. Worth a visit if you are in Arcos although I wouldn't advise driving! Leave the car and take the tourist road train. The roads in and out are so narrow it was scary especially in a hire car.

a place to adore the peace and appreciate the 'works of art'...AMAZING GRACES!!
those few euros entrance fee is worth it otherwise if these churches are not perserved... we'd lose them and our childrens children will only have the pictures to look at.

Very large and imposing church in the centre of Arcos, and situated on the main square. It was closed when we went so unfortunately we couldn't go in a look for ourselves, although what I have read here as well as what I read before going makes me reget not being able to see for myself.
The building itself is very impressive and you can get very good views of the surrounding landscape from the old city walls.
Explore the city too with its narrow streets and wonderful places to escape the summer sun!

Where does the tourist train leave from?
Written August 12, 2015
There is a very handy mini bus type service that leaves the Arcos bus station on the hour and half hour, and will drop you near your hotel if you are staying anywhere en route to the historic centre, say near the Basilica/ Plaza Cabildo.
