This lake is one of the best kept secrets around! We went to Gmunden on a daytrip from Salzburg. First we hiked the Miestrail and swam in the lake, as there are many hidden 'beaches' along that trail. We ate wonderful food on the way back at the Grunberg Landgasthof, followed by a walk and coffee at the Gmunden Esplanade. Great views and really not crowded compared to places like Wolfgangssee or Hallstein. We also had Steckerlfisch at a small stand in Altmuenster, which was absolutely delicious.

Lake TRAUMSEE, is a beautiful and picturesque lake at the foot of the Alps. Inside the lake there is the Orth Castle which is very impressive. It is about 2 hours from Vienna and the pictures you will see on the street will enchant you.
At first chance, I'll go back.

I Love Austria🇦🇹

Great as always. Even in difficult COVID times, Thomas and his team make you feel at home.
My usual room was not available and I had room 13 at the front of the hotel. It was as peaceful as the rear of the hotel.
The terrace on the ground floor was a heavenly refuge in the hot Austrian summer. Although the hotel does not have a restaurant (no miss with dozens of restaurants in walking distance), Goldener Brunnen has a very well stocked wine cellar.
Breakfast offers a great choice of food and drinks. Organic juices and Japanese teas compliment the well chosen cheese and cold meat.

Boat rental minus: no visible approach line to the shore, no life jackets - only for children or optional, quite expensive...

Boat rental plus: electric boat with sun protection.

Occasionally heavy waves, so that the boat rocks a lot, no "traffic rules" except that sailing boats have priority.

Otherwise great landscape/photo opportunities.

Hugging the sides of the lake, we went strolling today by Traunsee , in Gmunden , Austria.
What a delight. Lovely cafes , restaurants, ice creams along the sides of the lake, and the views are outstanding. Sort of a poor man's Como see.
But really try the Gmundenberg Haus, for a trink and something to eat. Great value and the views, fantastic.

Traunsee is situated very close to the town " Gmunden" at upper Austria. In German language it is expressed just the reverse way ie " Gmunden am Traunsee". Traunsee is surrounded by high mountains. Both Gmunden town and lake Traun " Traunsee" are very popular destinations of Austria
as health & summer resorts.

Traunsee has large surface area of 24 Sq. Kms. and its max. depth is 191 Mtr.Tranquil enormous water surrounded by high mountains is really like Nature's Gift to Austria. It is really paradise for those
who love the nature and tranquility, away from the noise of big towns.

Other nearby attractions are ;

Schlos Ort , Historishe Gmundner Strssenbahn , Gmundner Keramik & Historishe Traumseebahn.

In my opinion these lively destinations are " Must See " while driving from Vienna to Salzburg in
Austria. Few pictures from my collection , beeing offered to readers.

The Traunsee is not the ideal lake for people loving warm water and sandy beaches. It is the perfect place for people who love clean fresh greenish-clear water and a panorama on the mountain Traunstein to die for. Love it !

A beautiful lake resort in Upper Austria. The lake and the surrounding mountains leave you breathless and exhilarated, a wonderful break from the hustle and bustle of Vienna. The place is so quiet and laid back and the water is crystal clear. Lots of restaurants and hotels that provide magnificent views. Around two hours by car from Vienna. Ideal for a short summer break.

Just a two minute walk to the pier from the lovely Schwann Seehotel in Gumnden gets you onto a boat with comfortable seats that whisks its passengers across the length of Lake Traunsee. It happened to be a cool and wet August morning for us and the accommodating crew distributed new, thick blankets for all to use. We wrapped ourselves and commenced our journey to several towns which dot the bottom edges of this mountainous terrain surrounding Lake Traunsee. Our itinerary took us to Ebensee at the other end of the lake and the return trip was €19 per person. The ride took the most part of an hour each way. Do not miss a chance to see all the gorgeous towns and castles near the shores of this lake!

It's a good place to spend a summer holiday. Lake is quite warm, and it is possible to swim. In Altmunster there is a free place for sunbathing and swimming. Close to the lake there are several mountains with a lot of hiking paths. Along shore of the lake there is also a Salzkammergut bicycle path, so we can safely try cycling. I spent here 10 days, and it was absolutly too short time to try all possible activities. I will come here in next year too :)
