We've booked the wonder world of latrabjarg tour. It was a great tour only for the two of us. Maja found the best spots for us according to our interest. We were mainly taking the tour to see puffins and enjoy the beauty of the cliffs and beaches. It's amazing how close you get to the puffins, they're right in front of you. So we spent as much time as we wanted with the puffins and later took a strawl at the beautiful Raudisandur beach. I can highly recommend taking a tour as you learn a lot about Icelandic history and people. Plus you get to the sites comfortably and can enjoy the view during the ride.

My wife and I spent the day with Maja on the Latrabjarg Cliffs and nearby Raudansandur Beach. Maja was informative and gave us a perspective on living in Iceland. My wife and I suggested a change in the itinerary and Maja was flexible in taking us to Raudasandur Beach. It was beautiful. She was an excellent guide.

Today we went with Mia on The Wonder World of Latrabjarg - Hiking. She took us to Latrabjarg and along the way gave us such a wonderful backdrop on the history of the area and the landscape we drove through. The landscape was truly magnificent and as a photographer, it offered so many wonderful chances to capture the beauty and bird life. We hiked the cliffs and were treated to see so many Puffins, Kittiwakes, Gannets, Razorbills, Black Guillemots to name just a few. Mia’s knowledge of the surrounding area (she’s been there 28 years) made the journey quite memorable. We purposely chose to come here because less than 10% of tourist make it this far and after seeing the beauty of the region, the birds and wonderful people, more should come and experience this. Book your trip today...so glad we did.

Our guide Maja was waiting for us at the airport when we arrived and took us on an adventure through the Westfjords that we will never forget! She was incredibly patient and never rushed us at any of the stops while we took all the photos we could. She even made a few extra stops knowing that we were into photography. Her knowledge of the roads and skilled navigation made us feel safe at all times, even on some unpaved steep roads. She set us up with a clean hotel in Patreksfjordur, as well as an amazing dinner of fresh locally caught fish. She definitely made it an incredible experience and we would highly recommend it!

When our circumnavigation cruise of Iceland was cancelled due to motor failure we were disappointed that the replacement bus tour would not include the Westfjords. We were concerned about self-driving given the fact that it was the first week of October with a good chance of snow in the mountains. I contacted Westfjord Adventures to see if they were able to suggest a 2 night, 3 day private tour. This tour turned out to be the highlight of our three week stay in Iceland. Maria, our guide, ensured that we experienced the Westfjords with a very personal touch. One of the options offerred was “dining with the locals” .... this proved to be an incredible experience as we were invited into the home and life of our guide to experience an amazing lamb meal along with conversation with her family about life in the fjords. The evening was topped off with an introduction to the music of Iceland. Over the course of the 3 days we felt like we now had an Icelandic branch to our families. I cannot thank Maria enough for the warm and engaging introduction to the Westfjords. The Westfjords region has constantly changing conditions, especially in the months when snow occurs. Having Wesfjords Adventures set up our tour proved to be a great decision. They know the region because they live there and are really good at predicting changes in conditions that may affect the success of items on the itineray. Several times during our stay they modified the timing of items on the itinerary to give us a better experience. For example: we were booked to participate in the “Fish and Dine” experience where you fish for what will be prepared at a local restaurant as your dinner. Maria learned that a storm was coming in and moved this event to lunch instead of dinner. As a result we fished in beautiful sunshine conditions with calm seas instead of the windy conditions that existed later in the day. I highly recommend the Fish and Dine excursion even if you don’t like to fish (I don’t). It was much more exciting than i had imagined to fish in the fjords and eat my own catch. The experience of being on the water looking at the landscape from a different perspective made the time on board even more valuable. Maria also moved activities that were to occur the next day into the middle day of our tour so that we would not be disappointed if the predicted snow made it impossible to get there the next day. This meant a long day for her but her only concern was that we get to see everything that we signed up for in the tour package. As a result we got to see the stunning Dynjandi waterfall which turned out to be impossible to get to the next day. The tour included picking us up in Reykjavik area, making stops for a tour of a Milk Farm and the recreation of the home of Erick the Red en route to the Westfjords. At the milk farm we got to see a calf that was born that day, baby chicks, pigs and rabbits as well as learn about the new techniques used to manage a milk farm using technology. The visit to Eric the Red’s home was interesting in tems of learning about the conditions of that time period in Iceland but also made all the better by the humourous manner in which it was presented. The facility was closed for the season but Westfjord Adventures had the connections to get it opened for our visit. I was really glad that we had not driven ourselves when we were travelling through the snow covered roads of the mountains with our driver / guide in a vehicle equiped with studs on the tires. You really need someone who knows the roads and the winds!
