Eventhough it was crowded with out of towners ( and we include ourselves in that mix) it was a great spot to spend a chilly, windy evening. Not as warm as some springs, but comfortable and the view is of course, exquisite. A couple of curious seals made sure to check us out and make sure we behaved, while the birds could have cared less.

What a gem and great idea of having hot pots by the sea for your delight!
While exploring the Westfjords, I stopped in Drangsnes to find the Hot Pots. They are so easy to find, just on the road across the local church. They are clean and offer a beautiful view over Steingrimsfjord. On the other side of the road they have free showers and a place to change. Bring your swimsuit, a towel and make you happy at this amazin place. Hot Pots it's an amazing site. Love it so much!!

Three different temperature hot pots. Showers and toilets on the opposite side of the road. Although nipping over to shower can seem a long way in the cold! Nice place to watch the birds on the coast.

The hot pots are great. Located in rocks on the edge of the water nothing should be more soothing than letting the hot water completely relax you whilst reflecting on the magnificent settling.
Unfortunately that was not my experience on this occasion. My visit only reinforced my belief that parents with young children are some of the most selfish and inconsiderate creatures on the planet.
There are 3 hot pots. When we arrived a family with 2 small children had taken over the 3 of them. The children were basically running amok and the parents doing absolutely nothing to monitor their behaviour. Both were splashing around wildly, the older one repeatedly getting out of the hot pot and jumping back in.
The parents then decided it would be a good idea to arm them with super soaker water pistols so they could shoot one another across the tubs. Dad then decided it would be a good idea to retrieve beer cans from the rubbish and set hem up on the wooden steps leading to the tubs so he and his offspring could practise target shooting irrespective of how much water would end up on people's dry clothes and belongings on the adjacent seats.
The highlight of the afternoon came soon after when mom removed the little girls bathers and lifted her out of the tub onto the wooden surroundings so she could urinate. At least she lifted her out of the tub - better than having her peeing or worse in the water.
The parents couldn't care less so what hope have the kids got of having any consideration for others when they get older.

We drove over there (40 mins) from Holmavík of an evening to have a soak. I think it was evening of the 13th or 14th August. However we discovered that the three pools were crammed full of tourists smoking and drinking wine from the bottle. I don't really want to sound country-ist but suffice to say they were loud. This behaviour is not very respectful of the culture. They behaved as if they were in the jacuzzi at their buddies' late night swap-party. Also, we hung around for a while, occasionally peering over the edge to see if anyone was getting out, so it must have been clear we wanted to go in and anyone less self-centred than these pleasure-seekers would have noticed and offered to let those waiting have a dip. We weren't the only ones waiting. But no - they partied on!
We left eventually and drove the 40 minutes back.
Apparently Icelanders don't bother using the hotpots in the summer. Not surprised. I expect (and hope) they have some secret ones that they don't tell us about!

There are 3 hot tubs on the side of the road next to the water.
You can just jump into one after having a shower and sit there in naturally warmed water looking out over the water.
The tubs looked very clean, the middle one was the hottest of the 3.
It was very peaceful and beautiful.
We shared a tub with some German tourists and chatted away about our travels.
It was surreal and very relaxing.
Free of charge.

Showers opposite ; brilliant as all natural hot pots are in Iceland. Easily missed but they are signed. Excellent views. 3 tubs of differing temperatures.

This is definitely a remote stop, far off the ring road, but worth the trip. My husband and I came into town after a long day of driving and were delighted to find these hot pots. They are located right next to the sea and they were not crowded. The temperatures range from very hot (scalding, really), to hot, to warm enough. Great way to end the day! Showers and toilets are located just across the street.
