Am amazing landscape away from the city. A small entry fee is to be paid and make sure to pay for a camera ticket if taking more than just a camera phone in. We took a taxi from lower in Kochi which wasn’t too expensive, the driver waited for us to finish at the waterfall for a simple round trip

The largest and the best waterfall in Kerala. This waterfall doesn't dry up like the other seasonal falls we come across in Kerala. Even in peak summer( April-May), there will be minimal flow ensured by the reservoirs in the upstream of the Chalakuy river. The entry tickets have to be taken from the Sholayar check-post approx a few minutes before the falls ( while coming from Chalakudy side). It is allowed to enter into the river at the top side whereas you are not allowed at the bottom of the fall. There is a dress change facility available. There are also few snack bars managed by the eco-development committee managed by the forest department. To reach the bottom of the fall there is a paved path. it is easy to walk down to the bottom of the fall but the climb up is tiring. But it is amazing to see and hear the water falling from the bottom of the falls.

Athirapilly waterfalls is one of the largest of its kind in Kerala. A visit to Athirapilly can add a lot more value to your Kerala Holiday, especially if you are visiting during or just after monsoon. Featured in many Indian movies like Bahubali, Dil Se Taal and many more, Athirapilly is just a couple of hours drive from Kochi.
There is a nominal entry fee and parking charge. You can trek down to the bottom of the falls for an awesome view. You won't be allowed to enter the falls. You can watch it only from a distance. But the view is breathtaking from there.
Athirapilly can visited during your stay in Kochi or there are many resorts near the waterfalls and some have excellent view of the falls. If you have an extra day in hand, it is highly recommended that you stay at Athirapilly. Weave in a trek or a tribal cooking experience to make your stay at Athirapilly more memorable.
Vazhachal, another beautiful waterfall in that area is also worth visiting.

3. Changing rooms are available near the waterfalls.

These falls were dirty and had muddy water when we went. The driver said that is because of the Rainy Season so could be but Kerala has a lot of falls with clean water and thus I am not sure whether they are worth the detour we took from our way to Munnar.
They are also a long walk inside which is very tough if you have old people & children as a part of the group. Also the area from where u can see them is slippery and not properly done .

Nicknamed "The Niagara of South India" it is the largest waterfall in Kerala, This 80 feet high waterfall is located on the Chalakudy River. In the rainy reason is a sight to behold as water gushes down in full force. At other times of the year, you can see two-three separate streams of water flowing down with great force. In recent years the waterfall has become famous as Bahubali falls because of the most dramatic scenes of the movie Bahubali were shot here. Several other movies and songs have been shot here too. These include popular Bollywood movies Dil se, Raavan, Pukar and Kuch na kaho.
There is a common entrance ticket for this and the Vazhachal Falls. From the viewing platform you get a very picturesque view of the falls and the valley. You can walk a small distance downstream to view the falls from close distance. You are not allowed to get into the water and the entire area is fenced off. However, the magnificent view Is worth the walk. There is a small canteen where you can get drinking water and light snacks. The place gets very crowded in the afternoon. So, it is best visited in the morning around 10 am when the entrance gate just opens. There are many small shops near the main entrance selling small souvenirs and eatables. Spare at least two hours if you want to enjoy these majestic falls.

I visited this waterfall during monsoon of (August) 2019 with my son. Please watch the video of Athirappally waterfall which we have taken during our visit. (which is in Video Gallery-Sahyogmantra Tours website) It’s Gignatic… a delight to visitor’s eyes.. Mesmarizing. You just stand in front of the pouring water you will feel that it’s raining…The small droplets reach to you even form a distance of 1 meter or more. I have experienced it… My son got crazy when we visited it… Just to feel the spray on your face and roar of the falling water gave us a good idea of the forces of nature. Do visit yourself….you will feel the romance of water…..

Though fall is simply great but the arrangement by the department to manage visitors is simply pathetic. There is simple very untidy bamboo wall is made like we see in huts. There is no management if you go and want to see fall from the lower side. Its just garbage and un-managed place. This is shame to treat such amazing spot like this. A small plan could turn this a big tourist attraction.

Beautiful falls if the timing is right that is from monsoons upto jan-feb. We went in the first week of March and the water was divided into two streams. The 20min trekking from the gate till the top was a nice experience and the path is well maintained. But going to the bottom of the fall, though only 600m as told by the guard there, the path is very steep, winding and very rough. Going down is fine but then climbing up was going to be a tough task.We tried for a small stretch but then gave up, bein in the senior citizen age group and travelling alone(driving by ourselves) didn't want to take risk.
But the younger and physically fit people should definitely try it. We could see that the experience at the bottom would have been great.

Athirapilly falls is in Chalakudy river and the largest water fall in Kerala. During monsoon season the water fall is really awesome, the water cascade in high intensity to the base. Swimming is not advisable because of the force of the water flow and the slippery rocks. We can see the waterfall from the road, after a small trekking we reach the upper side and we can walk down to the base where the water falls. Athirapilly is a nice picnic spot but we have to obey the rules to ensure safety.

A well maintained, clean and beautiful waterfalls at kerala.
It is a 10-15 mins trek downwards to reach closer to the waterfalls. Since it is not raining during this time of the year the path wasn't slippery. Wear comfortable shoes, and you are good to go.
Would suggest to reach before 9 am, cause later on in the day it gets quiet hot and humid.
One of the must see places in kerala.
