The Syntu Ksiar in Jaintia literally means ' the Golden Flower' and well it definitely is for residents of Jowai town. It is a common picnic spot for most of the locals. Angling and swimming is common. A nice long steel wire suspension bridge spans across the river. A nice water harvesting structure has also been created across the river. Good for a relaxing picnic out of the house.

The green pastures and small blue waterbodies amidst them was the best view I got at Syntu Ksiar. The driver of my cab also showed me a variety of touch-me-not plants and mushrooms.

This place happens to be a favourite place for the locals. You will find many locals angling and enjoying there on a nice warm day. Walk the suspension bridge and feel the cool air.

I went to this place alone. Although it was beautiful, there were very few sole travellers like me and I felt rather awkward amidst the numerous families who had assembled there for picnics.

This was the last spot of our Jowai day trip. After completing Pitcher plant lake we straight headed to see this. But the journey was long.
It has a memorial of freedom struggle led by Kiang Nangbah. As per wikipedia- U Kiang Nangbah was a freedom fighter from Meghalaya who led an uprising against the British. He was hanged by the British publicly at Iawmusiang in Jowai town in West Jaintia Hills district on 30 December 1862. A postage stamp was issued by Government of India to commemorate him in 2001

The green fields and sunset made a deadly combination. We got up the view point on a height and saw the panaromic view and filled our hearts. A perfect spot to end the day and head back to shillong. Its less crowded and serene.

Syntu Ksiar is a beautiful picnic spot at Myntdu river in the lower Jowai part of West Jaintia district. It is usually less crowded and worth visiting absolutely.

Jowai is a small town with nothing much to do....but its a hill station so plenty of scenic spots all around! Syntu Ksiar roghly 5 kms 'downhill' from the main town, is one of the favorites among the residents for picnics, angling or simply just a place to relax. There's the river, paddyfields surrounded by hills, pine forests..you can feel the clean mountain air! Do keep an eye for birds if you're interested.
